My pair of 4mm rounds arrived from AJSgems today.

I'm pleased. I only paid $95 for the pair, so I wasn't expecting much, but they've very sparkly...the color is fabulous in natural light, and good (but a tad dark) in incandescent light.

The only downside to the pair is that, while both are cut to minimize the visibility of the zoning, zoning is noticible in one of the two through the table (that's the right word for the top facet, right?) if you're at an angle , though not directly face on.  Given how pretty (and budget!) the pair is, I'm certainly not going to complain.

Sorry for the poor picture quality; they're tiny little buggers!

How cute! What do you plan to do with them?

They're going into studs for my girlfriend. Either 4-prong or, if I can find someone to do it at a reasonable price, bezels.

Ooooh, what a cool gift! You have just given me an idea for DD's 20th b-day next spring. She would love a beautiful pair of stones like yours! Thanks! Are you going to do yellow or white gold? And - I love the idea of bezels.

Let us know what you wind up doing - with the requisite pics, of course.

BTW, AJS is in Bangkok, right? Did you have any "issues" in completing the transaction? I have gotten lots of stuff in Bangkok while I was there but I have never dealt with a vendor in Bangkok [or outside the US, for that matter] from here.

This is the third time I've dealt with AJS, and its been smooth as a whistle each time. My last name is really similar to his, so, I dunno, I feel comfortable dealing with mishpuchah.

I'm no expert on gems, but I am an ex-geologist and I own a loupe and know my mineralogy, and I've never felt like I've gotten a bad deal. My sense is that AJS sells a fair product for a fair price. FWIW, the color of my stones is almost a dead-on match for the color in the picture on the website.

I will! I'm definately going with white gold--I'm not a big fan of yellow gold with sapphires, I think white metal brings out the blue. And my girl likes white gold, and she gets too pick (metaphorically, of course, since these are a surprise christmas gift).

I'm hoping that bezels wont be too expensive, but I'm pretty skeptical...these stones are supposed to be 4.0mm diameter, so maybe I'll get lucky and they'll fit a cast setting. A 4 prong will look pretty nice too, I suspect, though not quite as cool as the bezels.... :-)

In case anyone is wondering, the stones come in this package, wrapped in bubble paper, in a small manilla envelope inside of the larger fedex envelope.

They look pretty. I hope you can find bezel settings to fit your budget. Milgrained bezels would be beautiful!

My pair is now bezel set!

I'm very happy with how it came out. I was just on the phone with my girl today, and she was, half jokingly, complaining that I had promised to give her "sapphirey ears" for Christmas, but now I couldn't afford it on my student budget.  Au contraire..she's in for a blue, glittery surprise.

Thanks to the good folks at AJS for making this possible.

I wish I could see her face when she opens them. They are really pretty!

Great job!

The earrings are very sweet! Great execution, and just in time for Christmas, too.

P.S. - I misread the small font in the title and thought it said A*S sapphire pair! LOL!

I love them - did you get them bezel set locally or from a place online?  Approx how much did the bezeling set you back, if you don't mind me asking?  I think they look PHENOM!!!

I got the setting done at a small local B&M place. The setting isn't great; there's a little "pucker" on one of the bezels (you can kind of see it in the pics). But the setting was $100, which I thought was a reasonable price, so the earrings, factoring in stones, setting, shipping, tax, all-inclusive, cost me about $220. Not bad, I think.
