Does anyone still like traditional solitaire settings?

I find my solitaire, usually, more comfortable to wear than my ring with the fancier setting. I love the sleek lines of a solitaire. Also, I have found it hard to justify spending lots more money on an elaborate setting and would rather spend it on a nicer diamond. Your opinions?

Especially because the PS'ers who have solitaires usually have exceptionally pretty ones. There are many people who will always prefer them to the more elaborate rings. I personally don't like solitaire on myself, partly because mine is not a pretty one, but I just really like sidestones for myself, but on others I think solitaires can be very beautiful, and I prefer them to the very busy, overdone rings. ETA: And lots of people like to have a solitaire so they can put all the money into the stone. Lots of good reasons to have a solitaire.

I think a plain band on the e-ring tends to set off the diamond better. A solitaire never goes out of style, so it is a good choice for those who like a traditional look. ~~~ When in doubt...don't.~~~

I love them paired with eternity bands. It's such a classic and confident look. Strange description, confident, but that's what I always think about the look. shrug

I love the sleek metal in a solitaire and how the attention is on the diamond. I'd rather spend money on the diamond than the setting, which is what I did. I love the traditional look.

Now that I have one (it's temporary), I think I can safely say I just prefer the extra bling of sidestones. The solitaire is a look that will never go out of style. It's classic, and tasteful.

I like the idea of the versatility of changing bands with a solitaire. My diamond is in a solitaire setting right now but just temporarily... it's just not for me personally... I think I prefer it to a more elaborate setting for me, but I love to see other people wearing more fancy settings. I would wear something more blingy, but I would probably ruin the setting as I am a bit clumsy.

But, I have now come full circle and am in love with them. I want a ring that looks like a solitaire from the top, but maybe has some surprise diamonds in the basket area. I agree with what everyone says, you can easily change the look of a solitaire by adding bands and it is a look that will never go out of style! I think its all about finding the *right* solitaire b/c they are not all the same. I adore the Leon Mege look; they are understated, but unique!! GOOD LUCK!! Shopping for and trying on rings is half the fun ;) Everything Works Out for a Reason

Simpler settings are more versatile, comfortable, and in many cases (though not all) less expensive than more elaborate settings. Solitaire settings are still very prominent in the world and very popular. But vintage styles are in trend at the moment, and many people love them. Maybe these settings will become classics and stay in fashion for years, maybe they won't. But in the end it really is all about your preference. For me, I wanted to get a good diamond for my money, of course. But the setting being "different" and "me" was the most important thing - I was all about the look of total package - and so we found a beautiful setting for a spectacular price (about as much as many solitaire settings) and got a great size diamond set in it. To each his own. But no - solitaires will ever be the most classic/common/popular of all styles. ........................ You say you want diamonds in a ring of gold...but all I want is you...
