I've mentioned before, but my local jeweler has an incredible 7.4 carat rb in his safe. I visit it like I'm going to the zoo! It is over 12mm in diameter, K/L VVS, with a table of 51% and depth of 61%. It has an incredible pinkish cast to it.

Well, again yesterday he was trying to talk me into it, and I said "How would I even set it?" And that got me thinking, and thinking can be a baaaaad thing!

Can you help me come up with ways to set this lovely that would do it justice? I gravitate more toward Mark Morrell than Leon, but this beauty deserves to have a little dressing up. Please post designs or pictures that you think would flatter this stone.

To start, my RB is in a simple 6-prong Tiffany style platinum setting. Some pics are here: Diamond Rings

Here's a Leon that I love:

I love the shank on this Cartier [yes, I know it's a cushion - sorry - it is one of my favorite rings]

I think this Leon is beautiful too and a large RB would look great in it [of course, make it all in platinum or WG]. I had my former RM set in a similar style without the pave and with the yellow and white gold reversed [sorry, no pics].

Since the stone has a pink tinge something like this could be cool done in pink sapphires. This is a Sabbadini piece:

Wow 7cts, what would I do with that. HMMM dreaming, set that bad baby in a Mark Morrell setting and put a diamond band with it. Yum like sparkly candy! You all have way to much money and time on your hands. Can you send some this way!

Wow, with a stone that size, I think a simple setting would be best. You want that baby to have center stage. But I agree, a diamond shank or even side stones would be ok too.
What is your finger size? I am a size 5, so I know a stone such as the one you are talking about, would take up a lot of space on my finger. Personally, I would want a setting with a little more going on than just the center stone, but that's just my personal taste.

I have sausage fingers, probably size this baby at 7.75. There's a gorgeous ring on Leon's site, but I can't get it to save. It is r1014. Here's a link. This shank would be lovely, but I'd love to have it flow into a Mark Morrell six prong crown head: AA-001a

HI:

Yes, set it in a solitaire a la LM or MM.  Clean and elegant lines.

cheers--Sharon

I've been looking for the thread Garry had with the big stone. He and irina(?) or val(?) posted several possible design ideas. Does anyone have a link to that thread?

Ahhhhh, here it is!

Hmmm...something that big I would probably just do a plain solitaire setting...maybe with some fancy prong work.  Or maybe with a sidestone on each side, but that is probably all.  Something that big and gorgeous deserves to shine all on it's own!

I LOVE AND ADORE r1014 from Leon... but these are favorites too.

This one I wouldn't do ALL pave. I'd do some pave though... I just think the Tiffany piece is over crusted, but I love the lines of the design.

This one is perfect!
