Maybe one of you has already done so and can recommend a brand and model. We would want good quality but certainly do not care to pay for a name. Thanks! ~~~ When in doubt...don't.~~~

LifeFitness are a great brand and do home and gym quality equipment, if I was going to get a really good one, LifeFitness would be high on my list, not because of the name, but because they are excellent treddys which are great to use - but let us know what you are after. I will post this thread in the WWT also, that way the WWTers will see it. Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse. Once I ran on a $3000 one I could never own or even use a $1000 one. I opted to purchase a used professional treadmill because I wanted the quality but couldn't really afford the pricetag. I think it was around $1600 but I believe it retails for around $4000. If you're going to be walking(and pretty slowly) a mainstream lower cost model may due but I'm not a stick and I wanted to run. I was well below the weight limits that the manufacturers publish but I needed stability that the cheaper machines didn't offer.

I have heard alot of great things about both the Sole and Smooth treadmills. They seem to have good mid-priced options. I do agree with the previous poster who said that you need to go and try them out in person....I would never buy a piece of exercise equipment (especially a treadmill) without trying it out in person first...Its really important with a treadmill that you find the deck comfortable (especially if you are a runner) and that it has all the features you want and need.... I have a finished basement and have it in front of my TV and I belong to netflix. I watch movies on the treadmill and watch a movie over 2 or 3 days. Once I start a movie on the treadmill I only allow myself to finish it if I'm on the treadmill. It really keeps me moving more so I can see what happens. I use to own one from sears, I liked it at first but over the years it became less stable. The precor is SO stable and great big belt on it. Yes, its pricey but so worth the money if you can afford it. edited to add, I just went to the precor website and see its listed at $4,199 retail price. I know I did not pay that much so I looked up my reciept and see I got it on sale and paid $3,300. Plus tax and $100 delivery and set up.

I say this because I recently purchased an eliptical and found that out of the 10-15 I tried only one worked right with my build. Treadmills are probably different (I've never used one - lol!), but still you need to feel which model "flows" best for you! FWIW, I ended up with a LifeFitness one and I love. Both my DH and I use it regularily.

That way we wouldn't feel bad if we didn't use it much. But it actually has been worth it. J is a runner and I used it a lot before the wedding. Anyways, just an idea...

I will also have it in the room with a TV/VCR, so I was planning to do like asscherisme! I think Tacori has the right idea...try to find one second hand. I don't want to pay $3000-4000 for a treadmill when that would buy a nice diamond band, RHR, or watch! But now that I know the brands to look for, we can keep an eye open. ~~~ When in doubt...don't.~~~

That was maybe 2 years ago and it still works great. I walk, he runs. It doesn't have any bells or whistles but enough for us (measures your speed, heart rate, calorie burn, and distance).

But they have probably changed them. Ours looks like the "CrossWalk 425" (we have those funny arm things). I have no idea how old it is since we bought it used but like I said before we never have had any problems. Even new the prices seem fair. J used it almost everyday while I was preggo. He lost as much weight as I gained the stinker Anyways I am like you, more money for diamonds if it isn't spent on silly things to improve your health I have a friend who bought her's from the paper too (after we did) and got a great deal so I think they are common items in the classified ads.

Avoid anything cheaper; it's not worth your money if you plan on really using it. I have a Keys Fitness Ironman M4, I paid about $1700 four years ago, and it's held up well to the combined 80+ miles per week my husband and I sometimes put it through.
