So Marie @ GOG recommended this Speyer ring but I'm not sure it's going to cut it. Can't find anyone local that has it. It's the same one that turtledaze has but I'll be putting an asscher in it, around 1.2+ Carat... don't have a link but also Natalie K but's its more like the A. Jaffe with some antiques style carving on the side of the irng. Anway, pics of asscher with these rings would be nice and comments as well!!!! |

A thin setting can be a very good thing as it will really make the stone "pop" and look larger. I am currently having an asscher custom-set with a shank that is a hair under 2mm--but I guess it is a personal preference. If the ring is not going to be a total surprise, you may find it helpful to go into a local store and have her try on some similar bands to get a feel for proportion. I personally love the top setting....

I like Speyer settings. They are great quality. The company is fantastic and will bend over backward to help you, plus the prices are reasonable. I think the setting Marie chose will make an asscher pop-- thin is a GOOD thing in a setting for a 6 mm ish asscher. I do NOT like the A Jaffe at all for an asscher to bulky and it would really overpower the stone. But do love traps and bullets like the SAS, but I don't like the bulkiness of that setting at all either. If I were to do something like that setting, I'd have Leon Mage do it, as it will be delicate and won't overpower the size of your asscher at all. Depending on depth, your asscher is going to be about the same size as mine, plus or minus. So around 6 mm-6.2 mm. Now I've spent a lot of time looking at asscher settings, and I have to say Deco has one of the loveliest settings on here for an asscher I've seen without a halo. I also love the look of this type of setting for an asscher (although this one is not well constructed and warped, visibly from the pics, but you get the idea) http://www.firenzejewels.com/store/views.cfm?product_id=3157&view=2&product_number=2999 This is one of my current favorite asscher rings without a halo... it doesn't have sidestones but is just so PERFECT for the stone set in it: http://www.topazery.com/antique-jewelry-item-rg1081.htm I think this Natalie K has a lot of promise as well: http://www.firenzejewels.com/diamonds/info/18-Engagement%20Rings-373-1482-000-Lady-s-Natalie-K-antique-style-diamond-platinum-three-stone-engagement-ring-mounting-000-.html My first choice of setting, if I did not want a halo, and wanted something like a three or five stone would be to go to Leon Mage. Hands down. But that may not be budget freindly at all. If I WANTED a three stone look at an affordable price, I'd probably go for the Speyer (cause it would make the ring pop) or the Natalie K I posted above.
