I recently fell in love with a Richard Landi engagement ring setting, but one jewelry store that I visited said they no longer carried his work because they had had problems with the rings breaking in the past and had stopped carrying his work as a result. Has anyone had any experience with this or is it simply an instance of "bad mouth the other guy so you'll buy something we have"?

I don't know anything about that. I do remember Chicagohills had an awesome Richard Landi and I think GOG has a link to Richard Landi on their website, so maybe they can help.
