I was pondering flower ideas today...

If your ceremony and reception venue are the same place - so the flowers will be the same ones for both. Do you think that the bride's bouquet should be bigger than the BM's, but all of them should match the other arrangements?

Or should the BM's bouquets match the arrangements and the brides be in keeping but not identical in terms of colours, exact same flowers etc?

Or, should all the bouquets be in keeping but not identical.

The things I manage to worry about!

for us, everything was deep red. the bouquets were all deep red peonies. my bouquet slightly larger. the pew decor & corsages & bouts were black baccarat roses. at the reception, most of the tables had black baccarat roses. the rest held our peony bouquets.
the cake had red peonies on top.

My BMs carried a single white rose. (their choice, I didn't want to control everything.) My bouquet was stargazer lillies, white roses and another white flower (I can't remember the name). The pew bows transformed into centerpieces. (I'm not sure how) Those were pale blue and white roses. So, roses were kind of themed, but nothing else really *matched*. It all just coordinated.

My mom is a floral designer, and I know she's done completely matching, all the way to completely opposite looking bouquets and center pieces. Their seem to be two current trends in our area. One is the bride carrying a HUGE bouquet that trails down a ways and the BMs carrying basic hand bouquets. The other trend is Colonial bouquets all around. Then ribbon is wrapped down and trails off the bottom of those.

It's really personal preference, I think. But IF I have a BM, then hers will be a smaller version of mine, most likely.

I had 18 black magic roses (deep red)
My bms had dark red spray roses in the bouqets, but mixed with mini-suns,kermits,and other fall flowers

My MIL had a tiny spray rose and dark red flower nosegay- complemented mine but different flowers

the centerpieces were candles but did have dark red rose petals scattered

My bouquet was ivory roses, red hypercium berries, a little green hydrangea, and seeded eucalyptus.  Ivory satin on stems.

MOH bouquet was leonida roses, green hypercium berries, green hydrangea, and seeded eucalyptus.  Sage satin on stems.

MOG corsage was ivory roses and groom wore an ivory rose -- both looked like my bouquet.

Dad and BM wore leonida roses that matched MOH bouquet.

Centerpieces on tables were ivory and leonida roses, seeded eucalyptus, green hypercium berries.

Altar flowers and wreaths on chapel doors incorporated all those elements and included some waxed fall leaves as well.

I don't think there is a rule to this. It's all a matter of personal preference. However, I think your bouquet should be bigger and/or stand out from the BM's bouquet. The larger decorative floral arrangements should mimic the same colors, but could be different from the bouquets. Do what makes you happy and that is all that matters.
