Green with Envy Ideal Rock Total Posts: 767 Last Post: 11/21/2009 Member Since: 6/25/2007	To all you diamond solitare necklace wearers... any difference in durability when diamond is attached to chain compared to when they can move? other pros and cons to these two different styles? Besides diamond seems to "float" when attached to chain. Type of chain...What is the most durable, yet delicate looking chain? Box chain? My someday pendant will be a martini on a 14k or 18k white gold fine persian chain (I love both golds). I love and will always love the box chain for strength. I've only had one break and it was very fine, but.. I still loved it. :) Yes, they make platinum chains, and while I have seen beautiful platinum jewelry, its not my preference.

I understand benefits and differences of platinum vs white gold for rings... but not sure about chains. Will white gold look brighter? Or pretty much look the same? I have been told that even though box chain is strongest... something more delicate will look better. If stationary setting... just go with trace link? I like Platinum better; I have a wg one and it is starting to get a tiny bit of yellow to it. I will place the diamond in white martini basket... but would it look funny if i have a thin yellow gold chain? I figure for something worn all the time- rather than go with what most people have (white gold)... I should get what looks better on me. Any good reasons why I should talk myself out of the yellow gold chain? Is it going to look tacky rather than classic if I combine white basket and gold chain? i could not find ANY examples... so no one must do it for some reason! ********************** The BIG day... That's what most yellow gold rings have-a yellow gold band with a white metal (usually platinum) head. I would just make sure the bail/bale (sp?), if you're going to have one, is yellow gold and only the basket and prongs are a white metal.

If possible, find one with a lobster clasp (easier imo to put on, most of the slimmer box chains come with the spring ring clasp and they're very small so it's sort of a difficult process for some to put them on). Otherwise, a very slim rope chain is durable, or something besides a chain just consisting of o's interlinking as they are very easily broken with a good accidental yank.
