Hi all,

Well i posted some time ago in regards to a Flanders 1.04ct diamond i was looking at for my girlfriends engagement ring.
http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=70199

Well i deceided to buy this stone and over the past few weeks ive been working very closely with a fantastic designer to come up with my own design that im hoping my girlfriend will love.

They have been working on it for 2 weeks now and I went to have a look at the ring today in its raw state and its coming along beautifully. The ring is a platinum (95% pure) ring, and they have just finished crafting the basic shape. The diamond has yet to be set, and there is still a lot of excess metal on the ring, so its looking a bit bulky. Im told that once the stone is set, and its all trimmed back and polished it will come up sparkling. Ive deceided to have the ring rhodium plated initially as the platinum has a slight grey tinge to it, and i dont want it to take away from the diamond.

Photos of the diamond and ring so far:

This photo shows a yellowish colour, but thats due to the indoors lighting.

Diamond sitting loose in the setting. Once finished, the diamond will sit lower so the girdle is level with the 2 baguettes. The culet of the diamond will sit approx 0.3 - 0.5mm above the bottom of the 'V' setting. This will ensure the entire side of the stone is completely exposed on 2 sides.

Ring is still looking rough. Jewler has just finished carving the overall shape.

Looking from the top. The claws will sit neatly over the cut corners, but not protruding past the edges of the diamond. Disregard the red marks on the stone, thats been done by the jewler in setting out the ring.

Cheers for your comments. The ring should be finished next week, and hopefully pop the question by the end of the month!

Forgot to mention the spec on the diamond:

Shape: Flanders Brilliant Cut
Weight: 1.04ct (actual weight 0.210g)
Colour grade: D
Clarity: VVS2
Flourescence: slight
Measurement: 6.56 x 6.54 x 4.04 (dimensions across cut corners)
Girdle: thin to medium
Table width: 55%
Crown height: 13.5%
Pavillion depth: 44%
Finish grade: excellent

Here is a copy of the sketch that i did up for the designer & jewler. As you can see, they hav done very well to replicate exactly what i had in mind:

Wow! That is going to be amazing!  Can't wait to see it finished!

Where did you find the Flanders stone, and where are you having the ring made?

I think you did an amazing job!

"It is also important for the State to inculcate in its subjects an aversion to any 'conspiracy theory of history' for a search for 'conspiracies' means a search for motives and an attribution of responsibility for historical misdeeds."

-Murray N. Rothbard, in The Anatomy of the State

John Swinton [1829-1901] Chief Editorial Writer of the New York Times (Considered "the Dean of his Profession" by his peers), when asked to toast an 'Independent Press' in a gathering at the National Press Club, circa 1880

"There is no such thing in America as an independent press unless it is in the country towns. You know it, and I know it. There is not one of you who dare express an honest opinion. If you express it you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid... for keeping my honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for doing similar things....

The business of the New York journalist is to distort the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of Mammon, and sell his country and race for his daily bread, or for what is about the same thing, his salary. You know this, and I know it and what foolery to be toasting an 'independent press.' We are tools, and the vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are jumping-jacks. They pull the strings and we dance. Our time, our talents, our lives, our possibilities, all are the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."

I dont think having such close up shots does it justice. I think most would agree, they look much better from a distance than close up.

The flanders 'D' VVS2 is gleaming!
