my boyfriend and i have been looking for engagement rings for a while and i can't seem to settle on one. i think we are going to have one custom made. does anyone have any suggestions on where to go? he lives in philadelphia, i live in the washington dc area. and we are open to heading up to NY if there's someone really great up there. i love leon mege's work, but its a little pricey. we've received a couple quotes and really a bit more than we'd like to spend. is there someone who can do custom work for less than 6K? |

Leon is not really that high for the kind of work he does. I'd be wary of someone who charged a lot less. Quest Jewelers is in a VA suburb if DC, and many PS people have had custom rings made there. I also love Maytal Hannah's work. http://www.maytalhannah.com/

i was thinking of Quest when you said where you guys are located. they do great work and their prices are very good. definitely give them a call. you can see pics of some of the work they have done for pricescopers in this thread.. http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=35129 |

My ring was made by ERD (Mark Turnowski,Inc) I'm sure you've seen all the raves about him on this site! Start to finish, they were GREAT and my ring was under $6K. My ERD pretty (but they will do WHATEVER you want!) ![]() ******** |

Do you want a designer or someone to make your design? That makes a huge difference on who you get too do it. ........... Karl has joined the diamond trade and is now posting as Karl_K |

There's a difference, and it's an important one. One (someone to make your design) will make the product of your imagination; the other (design-ER) will make the product of his, and you're paying for his imagination. _____________________ |

I live in the DC area, too. Go see Pete, at quest jewelers, near Tysons. The # is 703-204- 0111. He recently made an amazing ring for me. I wish I could figure out how to post the pictures. I have a 3 carat radiant, with trapezoids on either side. He was very patient in helping me to select the trapezoids. I have 3 sided micropave, and micropave on the basket. We worked from pictures I had, and he created the ring for me. He spent a lot of time discussing all the details with me- width of band, etc. The workmanship is just beautiful. I assume the pave diamonds must be a very good quality, as they really sparkle. He was so pleasant to work with. I met with a bunch of stores in NW DC and Montgomrey County, and went to quest based on recommendations from this website. They were lovely to work with, and I thought their prices were very fair. Good luck.

Maytal is making a custom ering for me right now. she does beautiful custom work, and a great example of a split shank pave halo is on her website. and her quote was significantly lower than LM. I believe she works out of LA, but she works with people from basically anywhere.
