Hi all,

Longtime lurker, first time poster here:)

I need your expert opinions please! This is our first major jewelry purchase. As it is over the internet, my almost-hubby and I won't be able to see the diamond in person (I realise this is not ideal). I've had a lot of trouble finding a cushion cut that I liked, especially since I prefer the squarer ones. This whole experience, while exciting has been nerve-wracking. Like everyone else, I want the most brilliant diamond possible!

I would very much appreciate your honest opinions on this diamond we are considering:

Cushion Brilliant

Colour: F

Clarity: VS1

Polish: Excellent

Symmetry: Excellent

L/W Ratio: 1.02

Grading Report: GIA

Depth %: 65.1

Table %: 55

Measurements: 5.99 x 5.9 x 3.84 mm

Fluorescence: None

Girdle: Slightly Thick to Thick

Culet: Medium

All the beautiful cushions I saw on Pricescope definitely swayed my decision when I was deciding between a princess and a cushion. THANK YOU

Well, the stone has a very good chance of being a looker since it is ex/ex with a depth in the mid 60's and a table in the mid 50's about 10 pts away from each other. Many of us have determined that it seems to be a "sweet spot" for cushions.

HOWEVER, fancy cuts really really really need to be seen in person to make sure they perform. So ideally, you would get pictures from this vendor or idealscope images. We really can't recommend a fancy cut without pictures, but I can say that this is one you should not rule out based on the numbers.

Who is the vendor? If it is Mark at ERD you're almost guaranteed a great stone.

Best of luck!

Any chance you can get an ideal-scope or better still - an ASET photo?

Thanks Neatfreak!  The vendor is not Mark, but another pricescope recommended jeweler.  I found the stone on Bluenile, and the vendor is going to call it in and take a look at it.

BTW - I gotta say I love love LOVE your ring and cushion!  I too am getting the Ritani Endless Love w/o halo and I have to confess the pics of your ring confirmed for me that I wanted a cushion rather than a princess cut!

Garry - Thanks for responding:)  Do you think that it is reasonable to ask the jeweller for an ideal-scope or an ASET photo? Please excuse my ignorance, as this is the first time, and I don't know diamond buying protocol!  Also, what exactly are those tools?  I have read references to them on Pricescope, but there seems to be so many and I have trouble keeping them straight!

Yes you should ask for photos, IS images, etc! You are spending a lot of money here! I myself do not prefer BN because they don't really provide the info that many of us PSers require but they do have a 30 day return period.

Hi yamsicle ~

I was recently in the same position as you...  I found a cushion at BlueNile that *seemed* to have good numbers.  I know a lot pf ps'ers do not recommend BlueNile since they do not provide a lot of info.  I did not see pictures of the stone before purchasing, but I took a chance and ordered it anyways (of course knowing that I could return it within 30 days!)  I got lucky and the diamond turned out to be gorgeous!  See
here.  I say take a chance and return it if you are not satisfied!

Indy - First, LOVE YOUR RING! Second, I won't be able to return it to Blue Nile. I found the diamond on BN, but my jeweler was able to get the stone from the same source that BN would have. They are getting it brought in, and they will look at it for me. Knowing that your beautiful diamond was found on BN makes me a smidgen less anxious!

So to sum up, I should ask for: photos, sarin, idealscope and ASET photo? Will the jeweler think this is overkill? Is there anything else I should request? LOL. I will have to post all the info I get so that pricescopers can help me analyze the data!
