Hey, do I recall correctly that you're in Morocco? Is that a good place for me to go traveling? I'd be on my own but am experienced and reasonably intrepid.

Any advice appreciated!

I'm home now actually ;-)

I'll write up some thoughts in a bit, never fear.

Well, I am biased, but I think Morocco is a great place to go traveling. It's slightly more pleasant if you have a male companion, but no worse than, say, Italy.

There isn't the wealth of "touristic" sights like museums, etc that there is in Europe, so my experience was that the most exciting things happen when you just relax and go with the flow...stay in a cafe for three hours, spend the night with a family in the mountains, etc.

Some recommendations:

--go to Fes for more than a day and a half, and spend all of it in the medina. Have fun bargaining, never pay anyones asking price for anything. Go for 60% of asking. Do all or most of your handicraft shopping here.
--Go to Marrakesh but don't be disappointed if the city takes awhile to stop feeling like a tourist joint. It's a tough city to get to know, try to stay away from the main attractions after the first day and you'll get to know the place.
--Get out of the cities and into the mountains! Morocco' geography is much like California, and the mountains are stunnigly beautiful. It's a whole different Morocco with a whole different culture and language. If you have the money there is a gorgeous ecolodge outside of Marrakesh that was written up in the NYTimes.

I have lots of specific recommendations for shops, cafes, places to go, but you'll have to let me know what you are interested in.

Hope that helps!
