I'm having thoughts about upgrades and called the vendor about possible stones.  Let's just say for now that both are well cut - trust me, they are branded stones.  I will post the specs when I get them but they are very new so I don't have other information to share other than carat weight, colour and clarity.  As I said before, I know my cut stuff, plus they are branded stones so I think both will be very gorgeous.

Okay, that said, which would you prefer (comparing apples to apples) and why:
a. 1.14 J VS2
b. 1.11 I SI2 (assuming eye clean)

Just curious.  No idea if any of the stones have blue fluoro.

Ok- you already know this is not enough info...BUT my first question is about dimensions rather tha ct weight.  Do both stones look to be about exact same size?  I figure they do.

Ok- if both are same size- AND SI2 is absolutely very very very eye clean... i would go with the better color grade all the way.  If the SI2 has some black mark under table or something- forget the stone.

Now if the 1.14 dimensions are obviously larger than 1.11- decision is more difficult because depends if you notice warmth and like this look.  I know folks will say maybe can not tell difference between I and J- but all day long even in best cut diamonds I seem to be able to pick the G compared to H.  If I can do this- I assume others can tell visual difference between I and J.

Thus- this is why I would go for better color if visual size and clarity only seem different on paper.

I'd go for the I (IF eyeclean), just because there's a little less chance of seeing color, and the size difference will probaby be negligable.

Now, if one had stong or VS flo, I might change my mind.

Can't wait to hear more!

Green and Ellen,
Thanks for the quick replies.  I've already got 2 J stones close to the 1 carat mark so I'm all right with the warmth (plus I really can't see the warmth unless they are right next to my F EC).  Yes, I need to know the depth % and dimensions before making the decision, plus the SI2 needs to be very clean.  So, in this scenario, I'm pretending that the dimensions are the same and both stones are eye clean.  If either one has blue fluoro, well...I'm taking it in a heartbeat.

HI:

The cheapest one!!!!

I have two branded, sooper pooper dooper ideal cut I1's set in earrings that seem pretty darn eyeclean to "my" eyes, so I bet that S12 would be pretty darn good; hence, I'd take the higher color.

cheers--Sharon

Very good point made- based on your personal color commnets...I second the idea of going with the cheapest.

I would go for the "I" if the SI2 is really eye-clean, and I may pick it even if not (although, this is assuming there is no fluorescence). I notice color in diamonds pretty easy, and enjoy a nice white or warm white diamond. J normally seems too tinted for me.

You ladies crack me up.

Darn it, I didn't want to say it's a Jubilee but since its out now... Yes, that's what I am looking at.  Yup, the I SI2 is the cheaper one but not really by much and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it isn't too deep, the table isn't too large and that it is eye clean.  I guess this can be considered a sooper pooper dooper ideal cut?  Or is it just a sooper dooper cut?

I'd go for the I (IF eyeclean), just because there's a little less chance of seeing color, and the size difference will probaby be negligable.

Now, if one had stong or VS flo, I might change my mind.

Can't wait to hear more!

I ditto Ellen! Especially since you say further down that the I/SI2 is cheaper!

LOL Chrono, I knew it was a jube.

I'd pick the I if it was eye clean, and if it wasn't visibly smaller due to the cutting stats.  And the price wasn't a lot higher than the J.

How can you say such things about Sharon's earrings?  I'm sure they are sooper pooper dooper looper ideal cuts.
It looks like the consensus is that everyone prefers the I SI2 if both were comparable.

And Skippy, thanks for the compliments on the big boy.  Hubby is basking in the pool of compliments.  He thinks he has something to do with it.  Does he?
