Hi!

I have been lurking for a few weeks while I shop for a new wedding ring/set/anniversary band. I came to the conclusion today that I have to register and post my issue with you guys on pricescope because you are the only ones that not only won't think I am crazy but will actually tackle my issue! :)

Okay here goes the back story:

My wedding ring is a bar set eternity band - I think 1.7 CTW. My jeweler says the diamonds are nice.

I need to reset it because it is too small now (babies!) and the hand done setting is a bit messy - I think I will switch to shared prong but open on that.
I never did an engagement ring and figured we would do a three stone emerald cut down the line. After four years of wearing just the eternity band I really like the look of one great band but thought I should go a bit larger so it is substantial enough to never need to add onto it with an ering, etc.

My issue is that when I looked at larger eternity bands they look like doughnuts on my hand and don't really sit right. So then I started thinking skip the eternity part and get more diamonds on top! So then I started looking at very chunky, lots of metal, bands with 4 rows of princess invisible set. Loved it - modern, funky, different, until it looked suddenly like a mens wedding ring circa 1980!

So know I am thinking very thick (3 ctw) pave 1/2 eternity with a metal edge - still modern, lots of sparkle, big, but also classic.

Although this look is so evening-ish in my eyes.

Then, I started thinking maybe I want just a special, unique cocktail ring to wear as my band and will wait until the right one jumps out at me.

Then! My husband says "i thought you wanted a three stone emerald cut". Which threw me in a tizzy of indecision because I thought we were waiting to spend that kind of money! Plus even if I had that ring I would still want something funky and band-ish to wear to mix it up.

SO NOW - sorry guys hang in there, almost done! - I think I really do need four rings! Am I crazy?? say I am not! Here is what I think:

Ring #1) Reset my eternity band with my original diamonds - petite, classic, pretty.
Ring #2) Thick (4-5 rows, 3CTW) pave band - lots of sparkle, classic, can wear on right hand as cocktail ring sometimes
Ring #3) Funky, modern, chunky diamond band (maybe invisible set?) - unique, fun, very sporty
Ring #4) the three stone emerald cut - no explanation needed :)

So - now I think I should do Ring #1 and #2 for my anniversary and build my collection with ring #3 and #4 later. My question to you all is

1) This isn't wierd, right??
2) How do I judge pave bands? I know I like ones that are not "vintage-y" for myself. Love them on others as I have seen on this forum. I think I like larger stones in the pave. I like Damiani... I get nervous about having my jeweler custom make a pave band for me because from what I have seen of pave it all looks slightly different and takes on personality of each ring. Have you noticed this?

Advice?! Pictures?!

Lisa
Make it a great day!

Hi Lisa!

You're totally not crazy! Or maybe you are, but if you are, well, most of us here are guilty of the same problem

I don't know what advice to give you, but I am always wanting like 10 different things at the same time. It sounds like you like many different styles, and that's cool, I can relate. You could totally get them all, or just a couple and then a couple later. But I find that I like to get one thing at a time, as much as it somehow tortures me. I like to be all proud and giddy about one thing at a time, and kinda draw it out over a period of time....

I was gonna say, do number one first but then again, why not take hubby up on his 'offer' before he changes his mind:D LOL! You can always start/work on the other projects later, and that would leave you more time to look around as well....

Let us know what you do!

OH BTW, welcome to the forum!

I have changed my mind about what I like only about 1000 times or so... ;)

I too would personally go for the 3 emeralds out of all the options.

Can we see pics of your wedding band?

Yeah, I think you'd get used to having three gorgeous emerald cut stones on your finger if given about 0.1984 seconds to adjust to the new look.

Another vote for making the 3 stone EC ring a #1 priority. That's what I'd do. After that, who knows!

Ditto for making the 3 stone emerald cut the first priority! That's such a big purchase that buying all the other rings further down the line will seem like nothin' to your husband!

I also would get the 3-stone emerald cut ring next.  You will love it.  Perhaps a simple plain wedding band to wear either with it, or alone for those times when you can't wear all the bling.  (Cleaning, exercising, gardening, and so on.)  It doesn't cost much and is so practical.

I have been married over 30 years now, and have gotten a number of rings that I wear on my left or right hand, depending on my mood, what I am doing that day, or the time of year.  Your collection will build with time.  And, it is perfectly o.k. to enjoy a number of different looks.

Thanks for the responses!

Yeah, totally could get used to the three stone ring! So funny! But - to be more clear - I just don't want to spend that kind of money right now. Also, thanks to PS, I realize that that kind of diamond purchase will take some research and hunting! :)

So really I want to find out what ring(s) to get in the interim. I think I have settled on the pave because it is a sure thing. I can find one I like because that sortof ring is everywhere. (unlike the cocktail ring idea where I have to wait for something beautifully designed to find me!).

So - help me PSrs! - When looking for a pave band how do I judge the quality?

Make it a great day!

So - help me PSrs! - When looking for a pave band how do I judge the quality? Do any of you have links or pics of good ones? Someone posted Gwen Stefani's ring a while back and from the little glimpse of it I loved it. I like a damiani band (too over priced) except it is also too busy (has overlap style) but like the way the pave is done. That exact ring is at my local Off 5th Store (saks clearance) for 12K. But I found it online for less than that too. But that to me is like buying Tiffany. For me, i am not willing to pay for the name. Although my DH ring is Tiffany but it was platinum and really not more than any where else.

From what I have learned by going to stores I like larger stones in the pave, domed or flat styles, not eternity and THICK. Most I have liked have been five rows and about 3 ctw.
I don't feel like a pave band is something I can get custom because they all look slightly different. Not like a basic setting of stones - you know? More like there is an artistry in pave that makes them all a bit unique.

I will try to learn how to post some links and my eternity band pics.

Thanks!

Make it a great day!

First of all, you're not crazy if everyone has the same craziness, so you've come to the right place .

I love options 2 and 3.  They're great for everyday wear.  Did you see this ring?  http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=68225.  Gorgeous beyond belief, chunky and pave!

Thank you for the link to that AWESOME pave band! That is exactly the sortof thing I was thinking when I thought I should just wait for a really UNIQUE and SPECIAL cocktail ring to find me!

For the pave band to hold me over I was thinking something even more plain but now you got me going!! See, there are so many beautiful things out there that I am just not seeing with online searches, etc. I am going to go "shopping" around this weekend and see what I can find. Here - I hope - is a link to the Damiani one that is similar to what I THINK I want.

Keep any suggestions/pics coming!

Here it is:
http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/damiani-jewelry/rings/18F1/24/

And on that same website - JUST NOW - I think I found the absolute answer to my other ring - remember how I kept picking out 80's style man-ish invisible set princess rings? And everyone said it looked dated and my jeweler freaks over invisible set. But something seemed cool about it to me - like sortof 80 retro and modern - well, this damiani ring - if copied and done in all diamonds - could be perfect!:

Those are some bold statements!  I love the wide bands. I've seen rings similar to the second one you posted but usually they're done in baguettes.

This is a bit plainer

Babymonster!

(very curious about your name! :) )

I love both rings you posted but especially the first - what is it? Where did you find it?

I have to learn how to post pics so it is easier for everyone to give me feedback. I am grateful you went to the effort to look up my links.

So the ring you posted has large stones in the pave, wouldn't you say? And it has the metal edge rather than the pave going over the edge. Which I love both ways but think I am leaning towards the metal edge. Now I need to decide do I like a flat, straight band or a domed tapered band.

I just don't think I can order pave sight unseen - otherwise I would go to whiteflash because it seems so many on this forum have had amazing luck with them.

The search continues and thanks to this forum I am seriously obsessed.

Make it a great day!

You're a woman after my own heart, I love pave.  Yes, the first one has larger stones - 9 points each and it's 3cttw.  They're both from a website that I like.  This is a link to the first one:
http://www.shopnbc.com/product/?familyid=J199701&storeid=1&track=-20112&page=LIST&category=Jewelry|t305&prop=SoHo%20Boutique|1392&catprop=1392&track=1392&cm_re=TS-_-N-_-J199701

This is my pave ring that I bought from the linked site. It's 2cttw, H, SI1.  I love how much it sparkles.

I've been happy with the quality of the pave from the site I linked and they have a great return policy.  Others here can recommend other online vendors.  It is cheaper to buy online than from B&M but you should do what you're more comfortable with.

One more :)

Hi!

Babymonster: I love your ring! So pretty! did you have trouble deciding between the rounded top and the flat? The rounded top looks so pretty on your hand.

Cinnamon: I have always liked memoire round eternity settings and didn't ever notice that they do pave! How did I miss that? When I first had my eternity band made I was copying the Tiffany style which is bar set. The jeweler I used said that all the eternity band at Tiffany's are actually by Memoire. Have you ever heard that?

Can I please get your contact? Thanks so much for the offer! The rings I saw on the website are ... dare I say it?.... perfect?!! Have I finally decided!?

Lisa

Make it a great day!

Thanks, Lisa.  I love both the flat and the domed designs and actually have one of each.  It depends on the design of a particular ring which style works better.

Those Memoire bands are so dreamy.  You can't go wrong by getting one.   I have been eyeing the mini prong collection myself.  Don't forget to post pics of the ring you end up getting!

Cinnamon013,

I would also love to get your Memoire contact. I've been searching for that Memoire pave band you posted in the third link - the bombe platinum band.

Please share, thank you!!
