I thought it might be fun to compile a top 100 list of annoying things you must encounter during the initial engagement stage (might be a useful tool for avoiding ''those people'').

here are 5 to start...

1. Puts nasty greasy germy fingers all over the diamond while saying "ooooohhh is purdy".
2. Asking "how much did he spend?"
3. Asking "how big is it?" Ummmm big
4. "can I try it on?"...uhhh, NO. Never. Don''t ask again.
5. Saying something along the lines of when I get mine it will be bigger/ better etc (WHAT????)

The whole trying on thing seems to be different over here (or maybe it's the people that I know that have got engaged). They've all taken off their rings, handed them around to the girls and told them to try it on as it's good luck. Now when I get mine, Im not sure I want to do the same

Seriously, did someone do #5 to you? I can't believe that, I've honestly never heard of anything so rude. Gah!

Wow! I didn't have any of those problems. But I'll put as newly engaged annoyance #6 HUGE CELL PHONE BILL. I think it was $200 or something. Suddenly everyone panics and has to have their say about the upcoming wedding. The initial drama died down fast, but it was, uh, pricey.

ha...this is funny...

I had someone say to me not even one hour after I got engaged -
"Wow....your ring is beautiful!  It's just too small for me....(whispers to me closely) I have big fingers..."

Uhhh - my ring is nearly 1.5 carats!!!  I don't think that is too small for anyone!  haha!

My biggest engagement pet peeve was people asking "When's the date?" IMMEDIATELY ... Caught my MIL doing that the other day when DH's cousin got engaged, trying to plan vacation time the same day she heard!!!! I was like "Geez -- give them some time to enjoy THE ENGAGEMENT. Your vacation schedule a YEAR from now can wait"

Re: the "bigger, better" gal ... heard that tale SO MANY TIMES around here. I swear I would laugh out loud in her face! And say "Yeah -- and when you get it I can't wait to see who tells YOU that her future ring is gonna be so much bigger/better than yours!"

"So when are you planning to have kids?"

As for the trying on the ring... I won't care; I don't believe in luck. I worked with teens and they were always trying on my stuff; I don't mind that but I do mind people touching the stones! And going along with that... touching photos and getting fingerprints all over them! UGH! WOOHOO for acid-free page protectors! Too bad there's no forcefield that zaps fingertips getting too close to diamonds!

ETA: I'll bet you will need to have more than 10 numbers!

Its been over  a decade since  I got engaged but  I remember at least 5 people either at work, friends, etc asked me if  I was pregnant!  Uh, NO!  What a rude question.  I was actually really thin at the time and had a totally flat stomach (ahh, what  I would not give for a flat stomach again- my post 4 kids baby body is not what it use to be but I'm working on it!).

Anyway,  I thought that was so rude!  Never never ask an engaged woman is she pregnant unless she has a baby's head popping out of her at that moment of your question!

Here's mine---two sets of parents begging you to have it at their location. (Different states.)
Then, when you finally choose a location and you try to ask that set of parents an important question, they don't get back to you. (Two weeks and counting!!! )

(For those who are wondering, I asked FI's parents over two weeks ago for an idea of how many people they will be inviting so that we can get our saves the dates ready. Ugh! They keep saying they are working on it.)

haha....I'm hoping these were people you didn't care about!!! otherwise...go get new friends...lol

I didn't find anything annoying really.  Just one or two people that said "Finally!!!!" (but that included me! haha).

I did get a girl asking me if she could try it on (a stranger at a bar....ya right).

Congrats on your engagement!!!! Try not to spend time worrying about what other say...some people just don't think before they talk/act! Just enjoy this time!!!

Wow, Iwanna, I can't believe some peopel said those things to you!

To be honest, nothing about the engagement has really gotten on my nerves. That being said, there have been some things that have made me chuckle. I shopped for my dress back in the midwest (where my family lives) and I thought that in general the dress boutiques would be less stuffy. I was wrong! When the saleslady at the very first boutique I went to asked to see my ring, she immediately said "that's so dainty!". Now I come from a not-so-wealthy background and my mom immediately replied "Dainty!?! That diamond is a carat and a half!! Nicole, show the ring to her again!" and I could NOT stifle my laughter. I am perfectly aware that my ring is not "big" by any standard--in fact of most of my friends, I have the smallest ring--but the whole exchange was hilarious. I think at that point I thought "planning this thing is going to be a pain, isn't it?"

As for things that were not so funny:
1. Extra RSVPs--FI has an aunt/uncle who literally added 18 people (!!!!) to their RSVP--basically their kids, spouses, kids, etc.--and our wedding is 40 - 45 people max!
2. The fact that everytime I mention "wedding" to any vendor at all, they want hike the price up 3x.

My FIL pulled #9 on me when DH and I announced our engagement to his family.    I was mortified!

That was the only thing that truly got to me.

Number seven is mine! I called my FMIL the morning after our engagement and that was the first thing out of her mouth... geez...

And my other is the "It's about time" comment. I know that it's funny at first but when people keep saying "They finally got engaged" or whatever, but after a few of those comments (or like 50 of them), I'm just sick of it.

This has been a sore subject with me, but my FIL's lack of involvement bugs me.  "How is planning going?" pretty much sounds the same as "would you like a sandwich for lunch?"  No enthusiasm whatsoever.  And they like me, I know they do.

1.5cts is SMALL?

My poor little 1ct cushion just whispered in my ear and told me that she wants to leave "everything's bigger in" TX and go someplace where she can be appreciated!

How about this one:

"What took you so long?  We'd given up on you two getting hitched."
And then, "why are you waiting so long?" (between engagement and marriage)

If I had a dime for every time that happened, we could have the wedding of our dreams.

Okay...that's it....I'm never going to Dallas.
I was watching a show last night on wedding cakes...and some baker from Dallas said something along the lines that the brides in dallas are really competive with diamond size and cake size.

But seriously....whenever someone says that a diamond bigger than mine is small, my diamond crawls into the fetal position and cries.
It's funny how I want people to notice my diamond, but then I get embarressed when they do. I was very uncomfortable with having the biggest diamond at FI's family reunion in VA, and yet I feel uncomfortable here having one on the "smaller" scale. Even though I really don't! I'd say that I still have a bigger diamond than 95% of the girls that I see around me. Sure, if I went to the galleria area or river oaks or something I'd probably see diamonds way bigger. But oh well. I'll probably upgrade in a few years anyway. And when I get a halo that should curb any DSS I may feel in the future.
