Eighternity vs H&A dilemma |

Been looking at rocks for a while now and have almost settled on a decision...almost. I was leaning towards the Eighternity cut but since looking around online a few seeds of doubt have been sewn; Firstly, apart from on the sites that are selling them, there's very little recent information out there. Apparently they may not be too busy in anything less than 2ct - way bigger than I can afford. And of course, the classic concern - how well would a branded cut like this stand the test of time. I have seen video footage of them compared to an H&A but there was no mention of the size of the stones used so it's tricky to assess properly. So come on all, let me have the wealth of your experience - are they as good as they say? How are they holding up now they've been around a few years? Assuming I'm aiming for something around 0.5 - 0.8ct (and I'm importing so can't really return it easily), would I be better off playing it safe with an H&A? Man, this game's confusing! |

Hi Jangla, I can't really comment, as I haven't seen the Eighternity in person. First, I would try and see the two in person. If that's not possible, I would suggest calling like GOG who sells them, along with regular H&A's and speak with them. Tell them what you want visually. If in the end you still aren't sure, I'd go with a regular H&A, you won't be dissapointed. ![]() One other thought. The Eighternity will cost more, which may knock your desired size down... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

Any chance you can get out to GOG and see them in person?? They are an hour outside of NYC.

Not really - it may be an hour outside NYC but it would also involve a 7 hour flight to get to NYC in the first place!

is this for an Ering? if so I would say dont stray too far from the norm unless you have seen it and are positive about it or know it is something she would prefer--unless you are her in which case, I am sure you will make a great decision! i have never seen the eights so I cant say.

This is just my opinion of the 80+ facet stones I have seen in person and I haven't seen the eighternity but the ones I have seen sparkle more like a princess cut than a RB. If you like small pin-pointy light return and want a round then they are worth considering. ........... Karl has joined the diamond trade and is now posting as Karl_K |

I'd stick with a hearts and arrows stone in that size. I doubt the difference would be all that visible to justify the price increase.

I agree with DiamondSeeker. I doubt that you will be able to appreciate the difference, so the markup wouldn't be worth it to me. It is a nice conversation piece, however, and if your girl wants a branded cut then it might be a good option. If you search eighternity in the box on the upper right of PS you can see some old threads where people discussed the merits of this cut vs. H&A.
