Which of the following do you guys prefer? I'm getting close to making a decision. I plan on putting it on a solitair platinum setting. GF is petite, so I think this is plenty big. http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131&item=981004

Gosh, they are all gorgeous and score very well on the HCA. Have you found a setting you like? Maybe that can help decide where to get the diamond. The price of the James Allen diamond is obviously nicer, but that ACA would be AmAzInG I am sure.

I don't know anything about RB cuts.... BUT the cut of the stone , the actual facets look different on the one at GOG. Do the experts agree? What is it? I like it better than the other two. JA needs a better photo I think. Sorry maybe some RB experts will log on soon.

If you prefer H&A the choice is between WF and GOG. If you prefer higher color you get WF. If you prefer size you get GOG. I would get GOG because of the cut. It is very tight (0.05) on pav. Azimuth is also minimal. Hard to find. WF is nice but not as tight as GOG. GOG also has better spread. Just my 2cents.

between those three it looks to me that GOG is the best balance between finding the right price with the right cut at the right color, clarity, ct.

Not sure wether it's better to just buy the stone online and buy the setting at a local jeweler, or if I should buy the stone and setting from GOG, JA or WF. I know the board thinks highly of all three. As far as setting, leaning toward the Vatche x-prong or Licinda. Thanks again for the feedback - Bernie

I think the best route is to buy the setting locally and then send it to GOG or whoever to set it. Even if you are charged a setting fee you should have the opportunity to try them out first, plus you can have a somebody to bring the ring to that you purchased the setting from for ring sizes, polishes, etc, and avoid the somewhat lengthy explanation and risk not being able to help her understand why you bought her diamond online. I was able to make it quite clear but I have plenty of reasons. Other people might not be so understanding though. The only caution I would have is to make watch his initial reaction when you let him know you have purchased it online. Also give him a good explanation, let him know of jewelers that had let you down and ended up turning you online because of their dishonest ways--or perhaps dealing with time issues, only being able to do much shopping after work--as both were in my case--and some of them will understand and be very kind. Then you have the benefits of a local jeweler and a hand selected tried on prior to purchase setting. Maybe even bring in a female that has purchased from him to keep his reaction calm about the online thing and see you as a potential customer rather than someone who bought a diamond online and thus as a lost sale? (if you have troubles with angry reactions as I often have).

The simple thing to do is buy the stone and have the vendor set it for you. That way the stone is insured during the setting process. That worked really well for me! Fewer worries and less hassle. As far as having a local jeweler. Just buy something simple from a highly regarded local B&M. Then they will be happy to clean your ering and tend to any other needs you have. Ask around I'm sure someone you know can offer you a recommendation. Then check it out first. HTH

Ended up going with the diamond from GOG. Also going with a Vatche Royal X setting. Although I was initially hesitant to buy online, the fact that they are a short drive from where I live made me much more comfortable. Thanks again for all the help - Bernie

Thanks again for all the help - Bernie Bernie, believe it or not, I also have a 1.63 H VS1 diamond from GOG!!! When I first saw that diamond posted, I did a double-take! I thought they had mistakenly put my diamond up again! Trust me, it is gorgeous. You made a great choice!
