Need your opinion on upgrading my diamond |

I now have a 2.65 carat beautiful radiant diamond ring. I am thinking of upgrading to a 4 carat (not sure which type of stone yet) diamond. My husband told me that I CAN do it. Do you think it is a crazy idea? Will 4 carats look to large? I am looking for honest opinions. Women tend to have larger diamonds in the area that I live in so what I have now is the norm.

If your husband is in agreement and it's not a burden financially (which obviously it must not be  ) and you want it then GO FOR IT! I would in a heartbeat.........if I could answer yes to #1 and #2......... ha ha!

It looks like you can afford it, hubby is willing to fork out the $$$ AND you feel confident that you can carry it off. That's all that matters. It's certainly not crazy to me.

If you can, you want to and he says okay, give me a minute to answer...YES! Would you be trading in your stone, or making a RHR or pendant out of it or just keeping it as is? I would absolutely upgrade if you are being granted the go ahead. Read all the threads about women trying to convince their hubby's to say yes! I would go and try on different shapes and sizes for sure, and decide what I wanted, but I would start shopping immediately!

Of course once you try stones on you can adjust the size you're searching for if needed.

Thanks, SH! It is really a no brainer to me. Look at all the posts about how can I GET my hubby to agree to this...well, your battle is half won since he is saying to go for it! What is left is for you to find the shape and size you want, and decide on the setting. I had always put the cart before the horse in my house, though my first upgrade I just dropped major hints and he chose the ring, which was stunning I must say, once he understand my taste and the different elements of the ring. Have a ball, you might be surprised when you start trying things on. You may want to stick with the same shape or totally change it up, but I think going from that size to around a 4 carat, depending on cut and type of stone, will be a significant difference. Keep us posted!!!

Well, for ME, I'm not sure I would want a 4 ct diamond for everyday wear - 3 ct would be the absolute top I would go - and in case it helps YOU here is why: A 4ct diamond sends a very clear message that your wallet and / or finger are things worth stealing / cutting off. i would not feel safe walking around with that on my finger for safety reasons. You can insure it against loss, but you can't insure your finger against loss (if you know what I mean), or your sense of well-being against loss if someone tries to mug you or attack you. I just wouldn't want to attract that kind of attention. I don't like to own things that cause me anxiety. But that's just me. Now, if you had your 2.65 for everyday wear, and a 4ct for special occasions, that would be perfect! My mom has an RB around that size and it looks great. But people where she lives don't wear jewels even THAT big and there's some street crime there, so she's too scared to wear it out and about everyday. That's sad.  So i guess what I'm saying is, consider carefully whether it would cause you anxiety. If the answer is 'no', go for it! If you think it would, then consider getting it for special occasions or just getting some other wonderful piece of jewelry and holding on to your no doubt gorgeous 2.65.

I'd never want a 4 ct. round, but a cushion or emerald cut might be very nice! Just know the hunt for a great stone in that size range may take a long time, and the prices will be very, very high.

I have a 4.10 round and I love it. I do not wear it every day but in Nyc where I live, and other areas I am certain, it would not bre considered too large. I do not kn0ow how to transfer pictures but you can see it under my name on Show Me the Ring.

I would be somewhat concerned about the personal safety issues, but that aside, I'd go for it. You could always "downgrade" later if it really didn't suit you. I agree that a RB might not be something as easily carried off as a fancy cut. What a wonderful decision to get to make!

If money isn't really an object, and you want a beautiful, large stone on the sooner side, can I just give a plug for the spectacular fancy cuts at Graff? They specialize in top quality large stones, mostly fancy cuts (I wasn't thrilled with their RB's). You'll pay a premium for the Graff name, although I discovered that they are DEFINITELY willing to negotiate if they think they'll get the sale. They knocked about 1/3 off the original asking price when I asked them what the 'best price' they could offer would be. But you'll also get a gorgeous stone, unparalleled service, and a beautiful setting. Their cushions and especially their EC's are to die for. And I'm sure if they don't have just what you're looking for in the store, they have the connections to find it for you, given their niche market. Graff is my favourite store in the whole world!

I would put considerable time into my search to make sure I got something wonderful. Other than that...I think you should go for it since hubby is supportive and you can swing it financially!
