If you've been following my story, my boyfriend and I chose a ring and diamond a while ago and I just received notice yesterday that our ring is shipping out-- it should be here tomorrow!! BUT my boyfriend is out of state until the end of August for an away medical rotation (in his last year of med school), and he told me that I CAN'T open the box when it comes. I have to let it SIT HERE in my house for three weeks! And who knows how much longer after that I'll have to wait...I guess my boyf still wants to propose. I just asked him to please now kill me with the wait when he gets back...What can I do in the meantime? Hide the box in the closet!?

Hiding it is probably a good idea. You'll probably obsess over it a little less if it's not readily visible. :)

Do you have parents or trusted friends in the area that would keep the box for you? If I couldn't open it for 3 weeks, I'd want it out of the house. I don't think I could handle the temptation if it was in the house.

I'd probably open it, wear it around the house for a few hours every day, and then wrap it back up in the box before he gets home. But I'm bad.

do your parents live nearby? I'd tell them to hold onto it, I wouldn't be able to NOT think about the ring sitting in my house a few feet away!

No, we live in Houston and my parents live in Illinois. I'm actually going up to visit them later this month, and now I can't bring the ring with me! I guess they'll have to wait until the holidays to see it. I guess I'll have to just hide it and try not to think about it.

Well I am with Gwendolyn on this one...but then again I have been known to do that from time to time with gifts .Buuuut if it was my ring, I wouldn't want to spoil it, and I would know my tendencies, so I would have to get it out of the house. I mean, I would almost take it to the bank safety deposit to keep myself away!! Good luck to you, may you have more self-restraint than I! Cant wait to hear your proposal story and see some hand pics!!

I can't wait, either! Hopefully I'll be able to share some photos very soon! I'll keep you guys posted on the box...you may want to check up on me a couple of days after Friday and the box arrival....

I'll keep you guys posted on the box...you may want to check up on me a couple of days after Friday and the box arrival.... *grins* Yes, definitely, we want to know how you're handling it! I know how I'd be--in March, my boyfriend got my a promise ring for my birthday, and I picked it out and had it shipped here since it's an American company (much less expensive than the English companies, good grief!) and I had about 2 weeks to hold onto it before I flew out to England to see him where he could properly give it to me. I had promised that I would wait, but when it came, I couldn't. I wore it around the house, would put it back in the box, and the visit it again later. I told him too, said that I'd decided to have some bonding time with my ring. He just laughed; he wasn't fussed either way. I know I'd have the saaaaaaaame problem with my engagement ring if I was expected to hold onto it for weeks! I'd go INSANE!

I'm with you, Gwendolyn. The temptation! But if you don't want to be tempted, have someone else hold onto it for you.

I agree with musey. I am going to be in the same situation when my ring comes. Not allowed to look/touch/wear until the actual proposal. I know myself and it CAN'T be hidden at my house or it will drive me crazy! I'll be giving it to my mom who lives fairly close to us (but far enough to put the ring out of mind...sort of). We were also considering a safe deposit box, this was actually our first option. But I think my mom feels special that she will be holding onto it and then BF has to come ask my parents before he pops the question.

Luckily he took it out of my house the next day as I really could not be trusted with it. That ribbon would have to come off again My whole family were away so there was no one else to show it too other than the dog that night!

Oh no! I completely sympathise! Is there any way you can convince him otherwise? If the store you bought the ring from has a return policy, maybe you can tell him you HAVE to open it to make sure the ring is exactly what you ordered. If you wait three weeks, it will be too late to return it! DH forbade me to see my wedding ring after it was made and our wedding day would have been the first time I saw it. It was a custom job, so I was really worried about the jeweller getting the design wrong. DH finally saw the point that it would have been horrible if he slipped the ring on my finger on our wedding day and the design wasn't what I had imagined. He even let me wear the ring for a whole day just to make sure it was comfortable and didn't need any adjustments

Eek! It's out for delivery today!! I've tried to explain to BF that it would be wise to open it, just in case something is wrong. Unfortunately, that argument didn't get very far because he'll be getting back before the end of the return policy date. He originally let me pick out my ring, and I couldn't decide. I narrowed it down to two and let BF pick. HOWEVER, the other day the jeweler accidently TOLD ME which ring it was! Eek! So now it's' not so much a surprise. I'm not sure I should tell BF that I know-- he would be crushed. But darn it, if it's not a surprise for me, I wanna open it!! :) To tide you over, here's a pic of what's coming!! ![]()

Sorry delster-my dog is many things but a photographer she's not I was too afraid to take pics in case he looked at my camera and saw it. I was kind of glad too as the next day we were with our friends and they randomly started going through the photos on my camera-there would have been some explaining to do if they came across that photo

Ahh I LOVE Mark Schneider's things!! If you dont mind, do you have any idea what his stuff ranges price wise? I havent been able to find any priced online and am not serious enough yet to email a vendor. I cant wait for your hand pics!! I am with the other girls....it seems like your bf has put a lot into this, let him have his fun! It really is gorgeous, was your other option from MS as well? bee* close call on the camera! You could always take some, put them up here on PS, and delete them from your camera ....or I guess I will have to learn some patience! I am excited for your hand pics too!

Oh yeah, once I saw Mark Schneider's stuff, I knew nothing else could compare. Here was my other option. I think they both look the same from the top, one just has side design and has a thicker band. I found ours 14k white gold for about $1200. I believe the 18k was around 1600 and the plat was about 3000. I inquired about the white gold, and his white gold is the nickel alloy to make the metal look whiter. The package just came, so at least I don't have to worry about it getting lost. I think I'll stick it in my closet. I'm going dress shopping this weekend, so hopefully that will distract me!! Hopefully hand shots will not be too far down the road!! ![]()
