So BF & I have been dating a little over three years now, and we've been SERIOUSLY talking about "the future" and "when we're married" how we're going to do things...

Biggest complaint right now is (of course) financial.... we're in a LDR, and he's not sure about job status when he moves back... he could probably transfer with his company, but there's no guarantee of the same job or similar pay...he's recently promoted, but the increase in $$ totally meant an increase in the hours he works.  He also recently bought a house w/his Dad for "us" for when he moves back, so now there's a mortgage & landscaping & decorating to budget for....

I gave him ring info (cut, color, etc) a few months back when he started asking about what I'd like, but I have no idea what he's done with the info since... probably nothing bc his work is so stressful right now.

Anyway...what with everything the way it is, I suggested that he not worry about the ring, it's something that can always be done at a later date.... and he frowned & snorted....and compared that to the scene from that movie Knocked Up where the guy proposes with an empty box. "No way," he says.      ...but of course, I have no idea how long he's gonna make me wait.

So I'm stuck with the GF title for bit longer...even though we've already started tossing around ideas of wedding dates!

...(sigh)...

Thanks for letting me vent!

I totally understand.  I would be so psyched if BF asked me to marry him even if there was no ring.  It's about more than that.  But guys are funny...he said H#*L no he wouldn't propose without a ring although it is comforting to know that it's not about the ring.  He said that makes him want to get me an even bigger better ring...lol.

I understand your pain, too, Junkenpo! Our situation is a bit different, we've been searching for the "right" ring for nine months now (long story, we were looking for a sapphire, then a cushion), and several months ago I told him I don't need a ring, I just want to be with him. Well, just like your guys mine wanted nothing to do with that. He was absolutely against proposing without a ring, so here we are, still no engagement, waiting for the ring to be ready. ARGH!!!!! Isn't it strange that it is all about the ring to the GUYS, sometimes? Seriously.

I totally understand. The boy would not propose without a ring (I didn't care either way). So we went looking, found a stone and a setting and it has taken nearly 3 months to have it made. Now I've got to wait for him to organise a proposal WITH the ring... they become totally obsessed with it and think that its not a *proper* proposal without one. We are also looking at reception venues and booking appointments to see photographers in the meantime, because this same darling man wants to have a wedding in less than a year!! Men can be so infuriating!!

Your screen name caught my eye, and it turns out you're from Hawaii! (I'm from Oahu)
Just wanted to say "Hi!"
(Sorry, strange compulsion of mine to be drawn to other people from Hawaii...)
