Well, until I came across Pricescope, I was clueless about diamonds. After reading lots of posts and articles, I'm still a total beginner, but I did put a deposit on the stone below. It's for my fiancée-to-be's e-ring. She wants a princess-cut stone, and given budget I'm looking at stones in the 0.7ct range. I'm now pretty much insistent on an ideal cut stone, but not so picky about color or clarity. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/2850/ This would be an option as well: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/3014/ I'm working with Marie at GG to pick a setting. I'd like a classic solitaire design in platinum, but it needs to be low-profile since my girlfriend is a general surgery resident and often wears gloves at work. I'd like to spend about $4500 in total. Any thoughts about the stones and a great setting? Thanks in advance. |

Both will be beautiful... I would go with the G/VS2, because the I color might show a *tiny* tint in a such a well cut stone, depending on your and your FF's color sensitivity... the G will be nice and white. But i don't think you will go wrong either way (assuming the SI1 is eye-clean)

Both look great to me...however...just so you guys know, a princess generally has sharp corners and is more likely to get caught on a glove than something else. But if that's what the lady wants she gets it! You could also consider a cut cornered princess if it's an issue you hadn't thought of. But really, you picked some great stones. I agree with Jeff 100%, go with the G because you might see some warmth in an I princess. And I'm in Madison too!

Thanks for the input! We actually live just off Madison Street in Seattle, not in Madison, WI. It's my user name on a few other forums, so I thought I'd use it here too. I know about the corners on princess-cut stones, but that's her preference.

The G VS1 is $3200. Seems fair enough.
