...under your wedding gown? I had started to assume they couldn't because of all the ladies here who are going for comfort over strappy-heel-elegance. Should I be looking for something practical (i.e., in my case, comfy platforms for height) or something ultra-classy?

I want to wear flip-flops but my Mom has given that a BIG angry NO WAY . . . so I guess uncomfortable shoes for me till I kick them off in deference to bare feet at the reception. I do think they can show in the pictures, so make sure you are okay with the shoes enough to have them in the pics particularly the candid ones.

I think much of it depends on the dress also. I wore a big poofy dress, and the only time my shoes showed was a tiny bit walking down the aisle, when I was spinning around dancing, and for the garter. IG, since you're going with a close fiting mermaid, I would think your shoes will show, at least the toes, so you might want to pick something that you wouldn't mind people seeing.

Keep in mind, I'm not too familiar with your taste in shoes, but what about a pair like these? They have a classic shape but are still a little funky, and won't overwhelm your dress. They're not cheap, but you said you had some more stretch in the shoe budget. ![]()

That's a nice shoe! But I confess I'm a heel-sissy so I'm not sure I can cope with that much walking-on-tip-toes. The idea with the platforms is to give me height without angling my foot quite so steeply. I know! Sissy.

in a long, traditional dress, no one will see your shoes if you stand still. but as you walk around, you are likely to lift the front of your dress and people will catch a glimpse of your shoes. obviously it's not a focus, but i think it kind of ruins the effect to have a gorgeous dress and then "eh" shoes. Doesn't mean you ahve to spend a fortune and get uncomfortable ones, but personally I'd say no to platforms or flip flops unless it's a casual wedding. i got the cutest pair of cynthia rowley's online--and while there were a bit more $ than i'd planned, they are so cute and comfortalbe since it's a good quality shoe. also only got 1 inch heels to also allow for comfort..

NO ONE saw my shoes . I wore pretty ones for the ceremony and stacked flip flops after our first dance. Kind of wish I wore the flip flops the whole time

Unfortunately, I don't have my dress in yet, so I'm not sure, but I truly don't care. FI is 1ft2in taller than I am, and I just wanted platforms- some height! So I got these, and yes, it's a cork heel! They're really comfortable, though.![]()

My FI is 1'3" taller than me, so I hear ya, Amber! Those shoes you got are great. I've been checking out that "Endless" shop EBree pointed out. They've got some great stuff there too. I guess I feel like, which is more important to me, that I look absolutely perfect if my toes show under my dress, or that I feel elegant (read: tall) in that dress and comfortable. To be honest, I'm not 100% what the answer to that question is yet. I've still got a few months to find SOMETHING that won't require me to choose one way or another!

You just have to keep your eyes peeled. I looked at Zappos (and other shoe retailers) for a year before I found my perfect shoes. Here's a silver peep-toe pair that doesn't look to have too high a rise. The website says they're 2 3/4'' high: ![]()

No one could really see my shoes unless I was picking up the skirt to go up or down stairs. I like the idea of wearing platforms for the wedding. I love platforms and they are so comfy when you have the right pair. I was going to wear a pair of my black platforms, but fell in love with a pair a Nina dress shoes in silver that looked almost like these: ![]() |

I'm wearing gold peep toe wedges from Kohls for the ceremony, and adding some rhinestone shoe clips that i purchased online. For the reception I found a gold pair of Birkenstocks, with tiny ruffles on the straps and some rhinestones too- perfect for me since I'm a bit of a hippie at heart- my friends will laugh so hard!

For me, my wedding shoes are a place for me to have a little fun with our formal wedding. My shoes are some beautiful heels in our wedding colors. However, I have an a-line skirt so my shows will barely ever show. I, however, am known for my extensive shoe collection. I'm using this as an opportunity to show some one of the most beautiful pairs of shoes I've ever seen! ![]()

Hee hee, not a heel-sissy here! I didn't have a huge skirt, though, and I knew my shoes would show at certain times, so I bought two pair to change out if I needed to, one an open toed sequined heel, and one pointy toed satin slingback...both were gorgeous and I only ended up wearing the open toed ones all day and night. There's a pic of me walking down the aisle with my dad and you can totally see my foot in it. Also, we had some pics taken while we were seated with groups and you can barely see them there as well. Nothing wrong with being a bride who doesn't care for heels, though. If heels don't fit your personality either, and something funkier or more comfortable is appropriate than who cares? It's your wedding and you will be looking at the pics forever and remembering either that your shoes were killing you or that your comfort was not in question. I say do whatever floats your boat, but please don't wear Uggs or Nikes, LOL!

Does the heel have to be 3 inches? These are 2 inches, from Robert Clergerie. Apparently, they're very comfortable. Robert Clergerie "Music" (Silver) ![]()

Thanks jcrow! I love them. I got them from bluefly.com, which is also a great shoe resource, especially if you are looking for designer shoes.

Those Robert whazisnames with the silver are GORGEOUS, EBree! 2 inches ain't enough, but I may have to get those anyway. Y U M M Y. Loving those purples, too, Seattle. When my dad got married (again) last fall, I convinced my new step-mom to wear bright red shoes under her dress. It was great! She loved it too.
