Nor have I... I would think that unless an engagement is soon to follow do you need to even bring it up to the father. My father is uber-protective and he didn't really care when I was given a promise ring.

Sally sews buttons on the 9th floor. Think she has a tough needle? Again...good luck. I gave a promise ring, and it was 20 years ago, or so. Seems like I gave 1/3 carat, and spent a bit more than you, and a bit less than this. It's the thought that counts. Regards, Ira (Ruffles have Ridges) Z. |

Regards, That's one serious promise ring. ![]() Hmmmm.....it was an interesting time. I remember telling her...you know...this was for the RIGHT hand...(I wanted my options). And at the same time...I was looking for some kind of set of protections, you know? Then, when my neighbor down the hall told me that, when I was to offer an engagement ring, minimum a carat is what I should have in mind, I said...whoa... There's a serious cost differential, if not a size differential, between 1/3 and 1 carat. But...this is about ParkDaddy. Best wishes to you. Exciting times! Ira (Ruffles have Ridges) Z. |

Nah, I don't see any reason to ask the dad.

My opinion (counts for little), you don't have to go with a diamond. If you're just making the promise, maybe use a stone that she loves, like a pink sapphire or even her birthstone. I wear my promise ring on my pinky, so the fact that it's not a mini engagement ring makes it continually wearable. Or, if you're on a budget, I've seen little cluster rings that are really cute. Also, if she wears silver, I don't think there's anything wrong with a sterling silver ring. You should have some sort of a "speech" when you give her the ring. Don't let her be confused to think it's an engagement. Good Luck!

I def. don't think talking to the father is required UNLESS you want to do it...in that case you should. However, I think it would mean more to ask for the daughter's hand in marriage as opposed to asking for the permission to one day ask for the hand in marriage...does that make sense?...anyway...Good luck... Oh...and pics of the ring would help us to better give you opinions...

I have never heard of asking the father for his blessings in giving his daughter a promise ring. But if you want to, that is very thoughtful...
