Hello, everyone!

I wanted to know if anyone has ever received or you are sending your invitation in a box.  I would love to know what was in it.  Was there confetti and the invitation in an envelope or was there confetti and the invitation without an envelope?

We thought we would do pocketfolds but after recieveing some not-so-hot samplese, we decided to go with our original plan of the invitation in flat boxes.  We didn't think that we could afford it but it looks as though it is slightly cheaper than the pocketfolds!  I order the boxes and they got here super quick!

We just aren't sure if we want to put the invitation in an envelope or leave it out.  We are including a CD of our fav songs with us talking between the tracks (same as the CD favors but giving them early!)  So we know the Cd but curious to know if anyone put anything else in it other than confetti.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I love the idea of opening a festive box with overflow...just be careful and think twice about sending them to seniors.  I read somewhere...in Heloise or something that a grandaughter thought it was fun to send teeny confetti in every card she sent to her grandmother.  Grandmother was writing in to express how frustrating it was for old knees to bend down and arthritic fingers to pick up each little morsel.  Then there is static cling and she wrote she can never get rid of the pesky stuff!  Just a head up...

At my aveda salon when you get a gift certificate they place it in a square flat box on a bed of dried woodsy popourri.  It really makes an impressive display.  You might visit one and ask to see it.  It might give you more options or ideas.  Tied in a silk ribbon that is all that is used.

Sounds really creative...wish I were on you invitation list!!

I love your idea of sending the invitation in a box!  Very creative!

Do you have a certain theme or is there something that stands out about your ceremony site that you could incorporate along with the CD?

Also, something from your area or the state your wedding is in might be cool if you have a lot of out-of-town guests, like a postcard, restaurant menus, attractions and/or a map of the area.  If people are staying for a few days, it might be fun for them to have some ideas of places to check out and anticipate visiting before they get there.

Also, incorporating your wedding colors with ribbon, tissue, etc... would add a nice touch, as well.

Keep in mind that anything you add to the box will also add to the postage, so maybe try to find some lightweight items.

Keep us posted and let us know what you end up doing.  I'd love to see a picture of your finished product put together...it just sounds so cool!

Thanks for the advice!

Honestly, confetti is a tad annoying for me!  I love the idea but I remember getting cards with it in it and thinking... how cute... but then .. man I hate cleaning this up! LOL

I am actually going to use shredded tissue paper.  It's light, colorful and easy to manage.

Our theme is Napa Valley so everything is pretty much grape vines and grapes.  I like the idea for something from the state.  I considered a magnet but that would erase the cd! LOL

I'll keep thinking and post the final pics when done!  Thanks!

I have only heard of people doing the box invitations and have never seen one in person- but it sounds so unique!

Perhaps you could stick a few bits of candy or chocolate in each box as a sweet treat in lieu of extra paper or things like that. Scharffen Berger makes those nice little squares that would go perfect and it has the whole North California theme to tie into your Napa theme!

If you dont mind my asking- where did you order the boxes??

You can include magnets! They won't hurt the cds, promise. Floppy disks, yes. Tape cassette, yes. Hard drive, yes. Info in cds is recorded in the plastic in a bunch of little bumps, kind of like a record. The difference is it's read by a laser reflecting on the thin reflective layer rather than a needle sliding over them.

I had a friend do a box invite and the thing cost $2.50 PER Invitation to mail so make sure you take a sample to the PO to get an estimate of the cost of mailing them because it can get outrageous. Just an FYI, they are indeed a unique idea and look great.

Maybe a trip to the craft store would be in order.  You can look at garland that is made from silk ... but grapevine and leaves.  A delicate plum colored leaf with a curly piece of vine attached with muted tissue or chunks of popourri.  Oooo...what about a wine cork with your date stamped on it?  Added in the slurry box contents...you could carry on the wine theme with verbage such as "In this Vintage year of 2007" "To be uncorked on ....your wedding day"

Ok those may be lame...but I am in a hurry.

OH I have seen delicate but muted shades of images of grapes...in tissue paper.  You could fold the tissue like a envelope and place a seal on the fold. So when you open the box you see the grape tissue and gold seal, then open it to reveal your invitation.

Love your theme!

Ohhh... shigidigi!!!  Chocolate!!!  That sounds great!!!  I am going ot have to think about that one!

I bought the boxes on www.Uline.com.  They are having a sale until July 31st so I got the boxes for $.24 each compared to $.36 each.  I am really excited about it and really hope they turn out okay! :-)

Thanks, hikerchick.  Yeah, I already took one to the post office to weigh it out.  I tried with a ton of options inside but I still feel good about it.  Even with me addign to pocketfolds and such it was still coming out just as much.  But I will have to be careful not ot get too carried away! LOL

They have box invitation kits at papersource.com! They looked pretty slim... so not sure you could fit too much stuff in them. Maybe not what you're looking for?

Sujuann...do you mind sharing where in Napa are you getting married & what time of year?

We just remodeled my FI's kitchen last year and decorated in a wine theme that turned out beautifully, so we also considered a wine themed wedding.  We both live up past Sacramento, so if we don't run off to Hawaii to get hitched, I was going to look into either Napa or Amador County, so would love to hear more of what you are doing for your big day!

Also, magnets cannot damage the cd's.

Thanks!

Imagine how fun these would be to make if we had a Hawaii wedding!  I'm ready to start collecting stuff now, but I guess I should wait until we have a date and a theme, huh???

Awww, thanks, DKS, you are so sweet!  You always have such great ideas, and they are always so, well, you know, well-put!  You have such a fantastic sense of humor, and you always make me chuckle when I read your posts.  I can't imagine what I'll do when I actually have to go back to work in August...I had a meeting at school all day today and was already having PS withdrawals by 2 PM!!!  (Maybe they won't notice me running over to check my computer on my desk every 5 minutes???)

As for CA, I love it up here...we have such great weather (though a bit hot at times, I do admit!) but I can't imagine living elsewhere!  You are welcome here anytime,  but how do you feel about a 23-lb hairball named Maverick???  Hope you're not allergic to giant kitty cats!  Hee hee hee!

Hi, Harleigh,

Actually, I am getting married in Orlando, Florida on October 27, 2007... but we are both huge fans of Napa Valley.  We took a 10 day vacation there before we got engaged and loved it.  (first time for fiance and third for me) Because we loved it and he is completely a wine freak, we wanted it to be our theme.  He studies the ins and outs of wine and I enjoy the Napa feel.  We are both from the North so we loved the feel of the south (sunny) and the look of the North (leaves that turn other colors than brown!).

Thanks to a Mrs.H, she made a monogram like a wine top.  She was so awesome to do this.  I'll attach it...if I can! LOL
We are also going to decorate the ceremony area very natural with grapevines and such.  Our florist is amazing and does all the events for Universal Studios so we are truly excited to sign him.

We are doing other things like our cake is decorated with grapevine drawnings and sugared grapes on top draping over.  :-)  LOVE IT!!!   We are also looking into our favors from BV winery.  They have a site were you can make labels for the bottles for free!  So we had them made and are considering BV bottles (375 ml).  There is another wine here in Florida that we also like so we need to make that decision soon.

I know there is more but I can't think !  Busy night... battery dead... AAA said they would be out in three and half hours... people had jumper cables but wouldn't help me becasue they didn't want to get sued... (yes, two ladies told me that)... finallly got a jump and got home... two hours later!  So I alm surprised that I wrote this much! LOL  But I am an addict for Pricescope! LOL

Harleigh,

It's hard to find.  I should have been more specific.  I just happened to luck up on it.  Here's where you go...

www.uline.com then click on "special offers"... then "literature mailers"... and you'll see the listing there.  They are white which is what my guy didn't like.  He was thinking our colors (eggplant and sage/olive - the whole Napa thing).  He mentioned wrapping them.  My comment back was ... nope!  I couldn't even imagine what would happen to the 'pretty' wrapping in the mail!  My thoughts are that they are shipping boxes but when they open... BAM.. SURPRISE!!! :-)

You're so sweet for taking time to fill me in on that!  So sorry about your battery...I'm glad you finally made it home safely!

Thanks for the info on your wedding...I'd love to see pictures of what you put together when you get it all figured out if you have time.  I guess I was way off on where you were getting married, but I love your ideas!

Thank you, also, for the info on the boxes...I'm off to look them up.  Since they are white, have you considered the time-consuming endeavor of using rubber stamps with grapes and vines to decorate them, or if that's too much work, maybe some stickers from your local craft store?  I used to demonstrate for a rubber stamp and scrapbooking company many moons ago when I was trying to pay for college, so my brain is in overdrive with possibilities for your plain white boxes!

Also, wrapping paper is not advised because if it gets caught in any of the machines, it's hell on the post office and will cause a huge delay in the delivery of your invites.

Can't wait to see what you end up putting in these!

Thank you again for taking the time to share!

Harleigh

I've received one invitation in a box.  There was a larger box which held a smaller box tied with ribbon which held an envelope decorated with dried flowers. The envelope held the actual invitation.  Very foofy LOL.  I think if the box had chocolates inside, I would've liked it better!

I've received one invitation in a box. There was a larger box which held a smaller box tied with ribbon which held an envelope decorated with dried flowers. The envelope held the actual invitation. Very foofy LOL. I think if the box had chocolates inside, I would've liked it better!
LMAO!!! That's too funny...in my town they would probably melt before they left the post office!

I guess geography and time of the year would need to considered for the chocolates to work.    In the words of Forrest Gump: "Like my momma always said, a box of melted chocolates does not make for a good invitation"  LOL

Melted chocolate has a way of looking like another surprise...If that is what comes to mind when your invitees see it-I can picture an elderly person on your list opening it and using tongs to get the paper announcement out.  "Gladys you will  never believe what Susie put into her invitations...a stool sample.  Is this a new fad?"

I think you will have to send out an apology letter explaining that when they were shipped they were actually an attractive form of delightful candy...a treat to be enjoyed...nothing toxic.  Not a way to clean up and discard of fidos presents in the backyard!

And when you include an edible ingredient...how many do you send?  One for each of the invited?

It is a great fun idea... just need to get all the kinks worked out of it.

DKS...I will eat anyform of chocolate.  So go ahead and send me mine!

I guess chocolates are out, eh? LOL

Wasn't part of the original plan (here in Florida, I don't feel good about chocolates in the mail with our sun) but I did like the idea when it was mentioned. LOL

Hi Sujuann...

Was just checking in and seeing how your invitations were coming along?
