Oh gosh I picked a really bad time to get engaged (actually I should blame this on my FI ) - July and August are the busiest times at work for me and I've just been swamped! I miss hanging out on PS all the time...

Anyway I've been thinking about makeup styles for the big day. Everywhere I look are brides with very natural/bare makeup, brides requesting that they want to look like they do every day except more polished, articles saying you should look natural on your wedding day.

So am I weird in wanting the makeup artist to pile on the makeup on my wedding day?

I'm not talking 1-inch thick foundation, caked on mascara, etc.

But the thing is, I wear makeup almost every day for work. Not just lip gloss and mascara, but the whole shabang: foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, lipstick, etc. When I not wear any makeup I literally look like I'm 12 years old so I put it on mainly to look older, especially for all the clients I meet at work.

So since most people are used to seeing me in makeup all the time, I want more for my wedding day! Stronger shades and lots of contouring. Bring it on! I only get married once so I want to look the very, VERY best I can, even if it means not looking how I usually look.

Does anyone else feel this way?

...also, does anyone have any recommendations for makeup artists in NY who can accommodate my requests for medium to heavy makeup?

As always, thanks for reading and letting me vent!

Never thought about it till you posted this. But now that I think about it...YES! That sounds like fun. In fact, I kind of want everything to be a bit dramatic and over the top. Big hair. My wild crinkly metallic dress, and strong make-up. Yeah! Why not?

JenStone...

I dont think you are wrong for wanting a slightly  dramatic look for you wedding day make up... my only caution would be to make sure you have a trial.. and that you LIKE it.. and that while it is dramatic.. it still looks like you...

Are you in NYC...?

Krockie just had her makeup trial with a lady who works for Bobby Brown (makeup, not the singer.. ick)... it was really beautiful...

maybe you can page her and ask.. or... I will let her know that someone you are looking for some info... just let me know if you are in NYC.

Thanks Jaders! Yes, a trial is a must! And you're correct, I'm in NYC. I've read some wonderful things about Sachiko Yanase so I'll give her a call, and I'll definitely check our Krockie's pictures.

I'm kinda looking for a makeup artist who's used to doing Asian faces....I don't want to offend anyone but some makeup artists really don't know how to work with Asian eyes! I remember when I was getting a makeover for my prom (wow seems so long ago) I ended up looking like a possessed geisha.

i felt the same way! i wanted to look my best (but not look like i was trying too hard). i had a ton of makeup on, but you really can't tell in pics. i just look like i have fresh pretty skin - which is not the case. and i did the faux lashes and LOVED them.

good luck, i'm sure you'll be smashing!

Hey - I can't recommend anyone in NY, but as a general note, I would look for someone who has done makeup for photo shoots, or videos or similar. I think they tend to be more comfortable with dramatic stuff and also with doing makeup that looks best in pictures/video.

I had the same thing as you - I wear full makeup every day, mostly to look older but also to bring some color to my pal, washed-out face. My makeup artist had done a lot of photo shoots, ads, etc...and I thought she did a fantastic job - you can see an example, from my trial, in my avatar - I looked "done" but still like me, and even though it was a lot of makeup you can't really tell in the pictures

I live in NYC and just had a hair and make-up trial from Blush Bridal Hair & Make-up and LOVED what they did!!!  They are based in Westchester, but they do an absolutely amazing job and can do hair and makeup trials in the city!!!  My make-up was definitely more dramatic since I have green eyes (with a blue tint) so, I wanted my eyes smokey so they pop!  I will be wearing false eyelashes too.
