I will be purchasing a past, present, future diamond ring for my wife in the near future. I have a question about the two side diamonds. If I have a 1.00 carat round brilliant diamond in the middle what should the side diamonds be in size? If there a general rule of thumb or is it up to the consumer? ![]() Thanks!

I don't know what the norm might be, but my 3 stone engagement ring had a 1 carat center (we are now upgrading it to a 1.25 I have seen several style 3 stone rings where there is a lot less variance in size though, just depends on what look you like. Here is a pic of my ring (the wedding band stones are .15 each)

I think that it just depends what you like. My three stone has a .51 ct center and the sides are .27 ct each. I like the subtle difference between the two sizes myself.

I'd probably do .25's or .30 on either side of a 1 carat stone if you're wanting the stone to stand out a bit. if you're wanting more of a uniform look you can make the sides larger. I personally like for the center to keep center stage..

I know this isn't your intent but my FAVOURITE three stone look is where all three stones are equal size, especially if they're larger stones!! James Allen has some beauties I believe. So along that line, I think the bigger the side stones, the better. I would probably do at least .50 sides for a 1 carat, but this is a very personal preference. ~~happilyeverafter~~ |

I would say .25-.50 depending on what look you're trying to achieve. Have you searched 3 stone rings yet? I'd ber there are lots of threads with pictures.

I have a 1.06 princess and WF suggested either .20s or .25 sides. Here is my ring: http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=62216 Also, look for Belle's gorgeous three stone w-prong ring! I believe she has a 1.20ish round wth .25 sides and it's fab!!

One more If you scroll down a bit in the thread: http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=65765 you'll see Logan Sapphire's fab three stone ring which has more equal sides (I believe each side is a .41 with a .50ish center?) Love it!!

I talked to my wife and asked her if she wanted smaller stones on the side or have it look more "proportional" with diamonds that were half the size of the original 1.00 about .47/.46 respectively. She prefers this because it makes the diamonds "bling". I thought I had it all down until she told me she wanted a bigger center stone around .90 to 1.00. I was going to get something smaller. Lord...she is breaking my bank but she is worth it after 25 years of marriage. I get the impression that it seems more of a personal preference.

That is a beauty! I want to get my wife the same kind of ring. Your looks "proportional" in size.
