FI and I are going to Hawaii for honeymoon, total about 2 weeks. How much should we budget after airline and hotel expenses? This of course doen't include the souvenirs or other types of purchases, but just in terms of food, entertainment, excursions, etc. Thanks very much! just want to get a rough idea. Someone said 1000 per person per week, does that sound about right?

We just did two weeks in HI for $2200 pp. Staying in mid-range hotels, eating at mid- to low-range restaurants, renting low-range cars, very low shopping budget (I think $150 total between us-HA!), one fancy luau and one snorkel boat trip. That doesn't include airfare. We were very careful budgeters and I spent TWO months researching and booking hotels to find the best prices. If you did it for less, I'd bow down in honor of your thrifty prowess!! ETA: We island-hopped as well, but honestly that doesn't add much to the price ($150 each I think was the total budget for those flights, going to three different islands).

Shorter answer: yes it includes hotel. There wasn't much else to include besides rental car, food, and the two special things we did (luau/snorkeling). Longer answer: We did 2 weeks for 5 people and $11,000. I was wrong--I just pulled up my budget spreadsheet and that did include airfare. The fact that we had 5 people takes the cost down pp, but we had to book much bigger rooms than we would otherwise have had to if it were just FI and I. That budget also includes airfare for 3 of us (one from LA, two from Chicago) which would take it down also, were it a smaller group. Based on what we spent for 5, if it had been just FI and I, I'd venture to say... Food: $500 Special trips/luau: $350 Rental cars: $900 Hotels: $2400 more like, probably Airfare: $1000 (cheap from LA) Gas: $250 Total: $5,400, so, still $2700 each (close, but no cigar!)

This is our 7-day 6-night trip costs Our hotel was about $500 a night $150 a day for food (and drinks) $380 for rental car $700 for shopping So about $5,000 for a week (not including airfare)...Wow, that would have been a nice eternity ring!

We did 3 islands in 2 weeks for about $7K coming from the East Coast (DC area). We actually waited and went after Labor Day (a month after our wedding) because the prices on everything dropped so much! Hotels (2 REALLY nice ones, one mid-range), 3 rental cars, and airfare (to/from and interisland) was around $6K. I didnt keep close tabs on our expenses while there, but I cant imagine we went over $1K. We had some nice dinners out, but no big shopping trips nor did we pay for anything like scuba diving. Did a lot of hiking, self-guided tours, we brought our own snorkle gear and went to the local WalMart or Kmart and stocked up on lunch food, snacks, drink and alcohol. All that saved a lot of money!

DH and I did visited three islands in 16 days in August 2003. We went to Maui, the Big Island and Kauai. Airfare to/from DC and interisland= $1,500 Hotel= $1,600 (an average of $100 per night, we stayed in cabins, condos,B&Bs, and cheap hotels) Car= $700 Activities= $600 (we splurged for helicopter and boat rides in Kauai, and a great luau in Maui) Food, gas, shopping and incidentals= $600 (we cooked breakfast and lunch in all but one of the lodgings since they all had kitchens, lunch was usually a cheap eat at a local diner or something like that) So the grand total was about $5,000 for two for 16 nights in Maui, Big Island and Kauai.
