My sister and I decided that we are going to try to make invitations ourselves after looking at some beautiful ones online. Seeing as how we've never done this we want to hit a store with plenty to choose from and make up some mock examples before deciding whether or not we can realistically take on this task! Does anyone have any good recommendations for places that carry lots of different card stock? We don't have a Michaels or a Hobby Lobby nearby (I live in San Fran) and I just need help! I have read about a lot of you going with the DIY kits, but I want something with more color and havent found anything like it in a kit. Suggestions or stories of what you have done would be so appreciated!! Thanks! |

Ohhh YES! Go out to Berkeley, in the 4th St. neighborhood and go to the Paper Source. It isn't super cheap, but they have an amazing selection of blank cardstock in all sizes and colors. It's truly an amazing experience!

www.paperandmore.com has a great selection, and they're not expensive at all!

I got some great cardstock from California Paper Goods, online. They only charge 10 cents a sheet for business card sized samples, with $1.25 for shipping. Full sheets run about 25 cents per. They also have a retail store in Willits, in NorCal.

Not worth the hassle to DIY to me when I could get fairly inexpensive invites done for me. How exciting!! Which ones did you get??? I loved thier stuff but ended up going DIY with Papersource. Although, I didn't go all out and do thier petal or envelope-lining projects. I stuck with a chocolate square flat card, mounted white text weight paper on it, and printed them in my computer. I did embellish a bit by stamping an image of a flower branch and then I even embossed it. It was really quite fun :) In the end, I wonder if it would've been cheaper to order from the Divas after all the supplies (cards, paper, envelpes, ink, heat gun for embossing $140 and desk top embosser for return address w/ plate $60) are added together. Stampage added another $65 total. So $265 after all was said and done. I dunno.........cutting it close Oh well, if I broke even, then at least they were all made by me with love ![]() So, enough about me..........show us your invites :) |

I'm attempting to make mine, and all the components are coming from different sources! I really like the pocket style, so the pockets are coming from cardsandpockets.com, the envelopes and cardstock will come from paperandmore.com, and the ribbon will come from bagsandbowsonline.com (not sure that's the exact url, my MOH has a connection there, plus she'll be doing all the printing!

Our invites will look like this and our save the dates were the same pattern. ![]()

Wow, everyone is so crafty! I only need 60 invites, so I am tempted to go the route that neatfreak did. Which, by the way I LOVE you invitations!! sohappy- I havent picked out any yet, just got tons of ideas. At least I figured out what colors I want. That was the hardest part. I saw you bought an embosser- did you like it? I want one so badly for the return address. I figure I can print the invitee addresses with the comp. Kimberlina- you are so cute getting all of your stuff from different places! that is really resourceful and you must have a good eye to envision everything before purchasing! I have to admit I love the pocket idea- however I am afraid I wouldnt have enough information to fill the space!

Selkie- I have to say I am IN LOVE with cardsandpockets.com!! How COOL is that?? I love the idea of being able to put it all together. It would require a lot of work, but their colors are awesome and it looks completely doable!! Hmm... You've got me thinking this could be a cool route. Here is the one invitation I currently love and it is one that I can print on at home which is a plus. I really like the toille on the side, and am just wondering how one could recreate that if I did it at home. Any suggestions? ![]()

I have to admit I love the pocket idea- however I am afraid I wouldnt have enough information to fill the space! My advice is to get the color swatch and the sample before you try anything. The real only PITA about it is that you have to cut yourself or find someone to cut for you. That's where paperandmore.com comes in handy, they have a cutting service that is really reasonable, 5 for the first pack (100 sheets) and 2 for subsequent packs, and they have a guide to tell you what dimensions you can get out of one sheet. And don't worry about having enough information, you don't have to use every single suggested sized card, I'm only using 3 inserts..response, guest info and direction..and once you start playing around with fonts and font sizes, you'll have NO trouble filling up space! Good luck! Can't wait to see what you decide on!
