I'm attempting to finish up my registries and have a question. I already have a complete set of fancy, nice china. So I would like to add to my everyday china and also get another nicer, everyday set. Right now, I have a set of 4, simple white pattern. I can't decide how many more to get. I'm considering adding another 8 to make a set of 12 but now I'm wondering do I need 12 or is 8 total enough, given that I'll have the other set too. I probably wouldn't entertain in the white set or maybe would complement the nicer set with the white. So do I really need 12? But the white set is not expensive so there is part of me that thinks I should go ahead and have 12 total + 12 of the nicer set.
That would give me 3 full sets of china, which seems like a bit much.

Can't seem to get the photos to attach, sorry!

What do you think?

I have a set of 10 for my everyday and wish I had gone with 12. There are times when the white set might be better than your china. I would just go with the 12.

Yes, I would register for the 12.

For my fine wedding china and everyday dishes I registered for 12 place settings.

ETA: I have a large family and FI has a medium sized family so when we registered we kept this in mind. In the future when we host meals for special occassions or holidays we want to have enough matching china for everyone.

Although for our mini two-person family (just FI and I for now..........) a set of maybe 6 would be perfect, I also took advice and registered for 12. I want to be ready in the future for larger parties and hosted dinners :) However, I only registered for the dinner and salad plates of the set I want and aim to find pretty crystal or heavy glass platters, bowls, and other serveware that will go with everyday and any fine china sets I may have in the future.

Thanks for the replies!  It does seem like the consensus so far to go w/the 12.  Now, I just need to find room for all 3 sets of china!  I am really excited about the nicer pattern though b/c it's so different than what I thought I would like.  And it will go great w/the simple white that I already have.  Yay!
