Would you ever buy a non-certified diamond?

Sure, for something like a pendant if I knew what I was looking at and the price was right.

For example, if I knew it was in the colorless range, I couldn't find the inclusions myself with a loupe and/or they were hidden, and I had an idealscope to check the light leakage.

Otherwise, no I wouldn't and especially not for an important piece. Too many unknowns, especially cut which is the most important one of all!

Yes, and it was a mistake as far as QUALITY of CUT.  The price was okay, the diamonds were 1 carats, completely eye clean but when compared to an ideal diamond.... you could tell a difference.

maybe if it was an antique piece, but I would have it independently appraised and make sure the vendor has a good return policy.  I'd never do it on ebay!

I have a great jeweler that I trust implicitly. Although I'd prefer a certed diamond, I'd but something that wasn't certified from him.

Yes I would, if I trusted the jeweler.  My 3 stone has 3 gorgeous stones, complete with viewable arrows, and they are not certified.  That being said, the jeweler who got the stones for us and put it all together is a very good personal friend who has been in the business for years.  I let him do all the picking, after I told him the specs I wanted, and my DH and I are stunned daily at how gorgeous these stones are!

I would for smaller items, like smaller ctw earrings or a pendant. But I would only do it from a trustworthy jeweler that I had built a relationship with.

Also, I would buy an antique diamond or diamond ring but I would definitely want to get it appraised after I bought it.

Yes I would, if it is an antique diamond through a jeweler that I trust. If I were going to by a modern cut diamond I would probably just get something that was certed, since there are so many out there.

Yes - with a good independant appraisal.

Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse.
