Hey Appletini,

Ok, this is going to sound CRAZY but I think I've found *the dress*. I just saw it in a magazine and it struck me as being *the one* and I have seriously had no reaction whatsoever to ANY dresses AT ALL. So I haven't tried it on yet or anything, because I don't want to get my hopes up.

...EXCEPT it's from Pronovias. So I pricescoped it and found you had a bad experience with them, can you tell me how it worked out? I know zilch about wedding dresses, and honestly have zero tolerance for shopping, so I want to walk into a store and be ready to buy!

It's from the 2008 advance collection (no idea what that means because the website isn't in english) so I don't know if I can try it on yet, or what that means.

Your dress looked grogeous in the pictures, but what did you think about the craftsman ship and the material?

...AND of course the dreaded price question...*gulp* I saw $1800 US for your dress which I thought was beyond reasonable, do you know the max range? I want to keep it under $4000 CAD (the less the better though because it's a one time thing). We have 15% taxes here though, so I'm calculating with the exachange rate, it's going to be close.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe that me the anti-bride, is actually excited over a dress.

Thanks!

Hey Ally,

Long time no talk! I know I'm not Appletini, but I just wanted to mention to you that my wedding gown was also a Pronovias. We got married a little over a month ago, and I have been meaning to create a post with our wedding pictures for everyone to see. We had a full day with 3 ceremonies and an evening reception (can you believe that?)

I loved my gown, and I don't think you have to worry about craftsmanship, etc. The material was so light, really good quality, and it looked really good in pictures. I actually did not order it from a bridal salon, but from the internet, which saved me quite a bit.

I would love to see a picture of the gown you picked out.

How is everything else going for you?

Radiantgirl! I can't believe you're already married!!!

Pics, pics please! I really want to see, for the dress and because I know you look gorgeous in it, and I love eye-candy.

I'm actually having a double worry over this dress

a) Will it fit the budget (please, please, please yes) and

b) if I'm going to be able to try it on because it's a 2008 collection

And am I going to be able to get my hands on it in Montreal. It's weird because I'm actually a little frantic, waiting desperately for some feedback. I'm in a feeding frenzy!

Thanks for replying, I really appreciate it!

Allycat - I promise to post pics soon just for you! I know, I can't believe I'm married either. It seems like time flies by so fast, huh? When is your wedding date? Do you know the name of the dress you are looking at? I am pretty sure that you can try on the 2008 collection pretty soon. Not sure about in Montreal though.

Brgirl - Your dog is so adorable! Is that a Cavalier King Charles? I absolutely love that dog!

Ally, I know exactly how you feel! I feel in love with a Bonny dress (it's absolutely perfect for me and our wedding) and there isn't one store in Montreal that knows what dress I'm talking about. I've been attempting to contact Bonny Canada without success and I'm going a little crazy here...

Can you post a pic of the dress you love? I'd like to see it!

Hey Anchor!

I tried to link it, and tried to copy paste but it doesn't work! Tell me about yours, which one is it...I keep looking at the dress, and more and more I think it's perfect. I talked to my god friends though and they think that it is ridiculous to spend too much money on a dress. I don't know. I don't want to go visit the store, and then love and make up all these justifications. It's pronovias 2008 collection, and it has some blue beading on it. Strapless and some beading at the bottom.

Post a picture of yours!

Anchor,

Yes, that's the one. What do you think? I'm pretty much the kind of person that looks at clothes online, and can tell if it will work for my body, so I'd be really surprised if it didn't work. I've always wanted color on my dress, some beading and strapless, with not too pouffy, when I saw I was like "that's it, end of search" it has just enough pouff on the rear end area to hide what I want to hide. I swear Anchor I can feel it on me. Hair down, some waves, really simple, no jewelery and some blue roses (1 colour) for a bouquet. And my guy wearing a suit with a blue or grey vest and tie. That's just sick the amount of dreaming I've done in the past day. I'm off to look at what you've picked out. I've been a little out of touch.

It's gorgeous, and you would look breathtaking in it. We seem to have pretty similar tastes in dresses (some colour and beading, strapless, not too pouffy), and it does look perfect for you.

What you're imagining for your day sounds wonderful... Simple but very elegant. It's okay to be excited, you know!

As for the price... You wouldn't be the first bride to pay a lot of money for a dress. You already have your house, etc. so... The way I see it, if it's the one, why not? I wouldn't pay that amount as I'm on a very strict budget, but I'm not you. I'm just glad I didn't fall in love with an expensive designer dress!

I looked at the website and they have a store locator for the 2008 collection (the last section of the 2008 collection). A few stores in Montreal seem to carry it... Maybe you should make some phone calls?

Ally!

I'm so happy you found a dress that you are passionate about!  That is the one wedding detail that everyone will notice.  I know you will look gorgeous!

As far as pronovias goes, make it clear with your bridal salon that you will not tolerate poor quality control.  In the end my gown was fixed in time for the wedding, but I should have never had to go through the ordeal that I did.  I think the pronvovias gowns start at $1500 USD and go up from there.  However while $2K was a lot to me, a lot of gowns that I could  have chosen were a lot more.  My best friend spent $6K on an Oscar de la Renta but it was gorgeous.  Also after the wedding you can always sell your dress on www.preownedweddingdresses.com

Best Wishes!

Appletini: Thanks for the advice! I'm going to be assertive because I really don't need any extra stress when it comes down to it. But I'm glad your gown got done on time. It seems like your dress was a reasonable price (especially since it looks so much more expensive)

Radiantgirl,

Can I ask what website you ordered the Pronovias from? I would love to purchase online except I don't want to wander onto an unreliable site and get a shiny potato sack in the mail.

Also, how long did it take for them to ship it? I'm not in a huge hurry since the wedding is next summer, but it's good to know. Any info would be appreciated! :)

Litebrite - I ordered my Pronovias gown from Lake Bridals, but I don't believe Wendy (the owner) is still in that business. It took around 4 months for the dress to get to me from the time I ordered it. I would suggest checking out Lee Philip Bridals to see if they carry or get the Pronovias dress you are looking for because they quoted me a lower price than Lake Bridals did. I had already ordered the dress, so it was too late for me to get the lower price through them. Both vendors were recommended by the girls on the Knot forums. Here is their website:

http://leephilipbridals.com/home2.html

I saved around $700 ordering online compared to how much I would have paid by ordering it through the local bridal salon. Hope this helps.
