Hello! I was wondering what type of shoe I should wear for my August 25th wedding. Personally, I think that closed toe shoes look much more elegant than open toe shoes (that's just my personal opinon). Since my ceremony is taking place in the evening and the reception will be at a castle, we are definitely doing things a bit more formal than most weddings. But, since my wedding is also in August, I was thinking I might need to wear open toe. What do you girls suggest and what are you wearing???  |

I think there are some very elegant open-toed / sandal bridal shoes available. I am getting married outdoors and have to walk up this very long hill to the ceremony site. I had the task of finding a "dressy wedge" since my fiance said any other kind of heel would sink into the ground. I ended up finding a super-comfy beautiful pair of peep-toe wedges (!) on www.myglassslipper.com. Good luck!

I wore open toe shoes for my wedding last Aug. I think they are more comfortable (for me). Go with the pair you love. No one sees your shoes anyways.

I'd go open toe...there are some gorgeous strappy shoes out there!! My wedding was the end of Sept and I still wore open toed shoes.

I'd say that if you really like closed-toe shoes and are having a formal wedding, there is nothing wrong with wearing them just because it is August. That being said, I agree with the others that there are plenty of very appropriate open-toe shoes as well. Can you show us a pic of your dress (if selected) and maybe some shoes that you like?

I say wear what you're comfortable with! That being said, a close toed shoe in August might get really hot, really fast. An open toed shoe will allow air to circulate.

I am with Jcrow...closed. Especially the LOCALE and time of day. Yours is more formal...in a castle no less. Can one assume the castle is air conditioned-I think all your 17th century and later were, right?  ha ha. I would think a closed toe sling back would be lovely. Formal closed toe, with a little bare arch for the season. But as the others request a peek at the dress would be appropriate to really decide.DKS

I think you can go either way...I think my personal preference is for closed toe though- just looks more formal. Although I agree with Tacori- I don't think anyone really see your shoes anyway. I still haven't decided what I am doing yet either, so dont feel bad!!

Hey, we share wedding dates! My feeling is that it doesn't really matter because no one is going to be seeing your feet really. I would go for what's comfortable and your own personal preference. For me personally, I'm going with an closed toed, but open heeled slingback.

I think I would compromise somehow, even though it is August I agree that your setting and timing would seem to dictate something closed, or at least not too strappy. I love peep toes, with just a bit of toe showing, or even a great dorsay cut, so the toe and heel are covered but the arch is not. I agree it does seem a bit more in keeping with the event and feel, though I could not say why since I adore all shoes and strappy sandals are among my favorites!

I don't think closed toe necessarily denotes a more formal event, look at ultra-formal evening events like the oscars. Most women go with the open-toe (of course they are not going into a castle, but you get the idea) -there is no etiquette that i know of, i say go with the shoe you like the best with your dress.

This is a picture of a pair of Vera Wang shoes which would really match my dress! It has some floral embellishments around the bust line - not to mention that it is also a Vera Wang dress. However, they are well over $300 and I just can't see myself paying that for shoes I'll probably only wear once - no offense to anyone who did.

Wow, I just found these pics of my dress on ebay! I bought it at a sample sale and have never been able to find a picture of it online until now.

Here's another - not sure why the bodice looks yellow in comparision to the rest of the dress, but it's all one color in ivory.

seeing your dress (love it btw!) i would say open toe--it's not a super formal gown and IMO, the open toe would look best...although must say i love those veras

Now seeing the dress, I agree that a lovely open toe would look appropiate in August. Those Vera's remind me of sexy mules with feathers you wear as slippers with a negligee for some odd reason! Your dress is lovely by the way!

The last pair remind me of the shoes I wore (but they were gold). Just make sure they are comfortable. I took mine off as soon as our first dance was over. I was much happier in my flip flops and probably should have worn those the whole time. They were the same height as my heels.

May I resend my original closed toe vote? To err is human... After seeing that beautiful shoulder baring flowy dress I think closed may be to stuffy. Your bodice makes a pattern...similar to the shape of a bow. Wide outside as it comes to the center of the chest it is more narrow...I think you might consider a similar shape in a shoe. Like the peep toe one...sort of layers of folded fabric that mimic the dress. Not too much detail because you want that magnificant bodice to have center stage. But when you walk up stairs etc, you will raise your dress and the elegant peptoe slide...or mule or dainty sling back will look lovely. (When I first read peep toe I was picturing a stuffy looking 40's type shoe with a round hole...but after seeing that one posted it really changed my thinking.) The dress is really something special! I really think the peep toe, if the shoe is delicate, really makes it look elegant!
