I am thinking of the following: GIA certified, I color, VS1 symm very good polish very good 2.11 ct 7.13 x 7.09 x 4.92 table 61% depth 69.4 % girdle medium Price: $11,800 What do you all think? Does it have potential? I'm worried the I will look too yellow. Anyone with I asschers happy? Not happy?

An I will have a tinge to it in an asscher I would think. I think it's all about personal comfort level, and whether you will be setting it in gold or a white metal makes a difference too.

I have an "I" colored EC and it is bright white 90% of the time. In certain lights, at certain angles I see a light yellow. Mine is smaller at 1.72 and I believe the larger the size the easier it is to see color. I think it is worth a look to see if it bothers you.

The I colour will most likely be tinted with a step cut and at that size. You have to be sure you are okay with it. I know there are some people who like that look. As for the cut, I can't tell at all. Asschers are all about steps and symmetry. Any ASET and magnified pictures?

I am going to set it in platinum. Does that make a difference? I owned a 3 stone round from blue nile for about 3 weeks but decided that I would rather spend the money on one bigger stone and the rounds did not due it for me. I am in love with step cuts! Will the platinum make the stone look whiter or more yellow? I am going to set it as a solitaire for now. And maybe in a few years give it a fancier setting with side stones. But for now, I would rather spend money on the stone. Its a local jeweler who offered to bring the stone in for me. Do I need asset if I am going to see it in person?

Plat will emphasize the yellow of the stone. yes, you should always see idealscope and ASET because they will see what your eyes might not in the store lighting.

I like white metals for diamonds in the colourless range so I think yours would do just fine. Unless you have an experienced eye, you most likely will need an Idealscope. We don't have the $ for an ASET machine. I would read up on asscher threads with special attention to Storm's advice. He is the asscher guru here at PS.

I guess I should have added that my ring is PLT. Can you see the stone IRL?

Someone on here has a LOVELY I asscher set in Patinum... halo pave... I can't remember who right now though, although thier ring is their AV and I know exactly what the ring looks like. LOL. ETA: littlelysser is the one with the I and she has always maintained that as hers is very well cut, she has no regrets about the color. I've seen J asschers.. BIG ONES and I personally liked the warmth. If it's got a decent return policy, the color wouldn't put me off. As for regrets though... many asscher owners have upgraded or changed shape recently as they have not, long term, been happy with their asschers. And I would join their ranks, in all likelihood, if I could. So a search on 'happy asscher' or 'asscher owners' if you want to read up on the trend. Depth on yours would be too much for me. I want asschers that are spready as possible so I'd personally stick with a depth from 58-64 max.

tierhog had a gorgeous asscher in a J color that I would have liked to have any day!!! I color will be fine most of the time if you aren't color sensitive. However, if you are going for icey white...this isn't it.

need pictures to tell you about the cut of the stone.... I color its really a personal choice. In that size id stay h or above or L or below but thats me. I either like em white or tinted enough to see it all the time, in between bugs me. ........... Karl has joined the diamond trade and is now posting as Karl_K |

Does the diamond have any fluorescence? I think fluor will help the I face up whiter. I also think you'd have to see the diamond in person to see if it bugs you. I'd give it a shot if the idealscope and ASET (and return policy) were good.

I have an I colored asscher. It is 1.58 carats. Very very rarely do I see color in it. Only in certain lights and only briefly. And it doesn't so much seem yellow as it does a bit less white...if that makes sense. I am very pleased with my I asscher... ETA: Yep Gypsy, it was me! |

Thanks for the advice. I think I am going to pass. The photos that were posted are beautiful! I am feeling pretty undecided at this point and keep waffling between an emerald cut and asscher. I know I want a step cut but can't decide which one!
