hi! I'm thinking of getting a very small bezel set diamond pendant (between .25 and .33). I read Piccoloscimmia's thread with interest, where she was deciding between the Blue Nile bezel pendant and the martini from WF. I'm hoping that Piccolo and other owners of similar pendants can tell me which bezel setting they have (if readily available) and...

Does your pendant flip?

Do you think this size will be nice or should I hold out til I can get a bigger one?

Do you have the fixed bezel or the slider kind, and are you happy with your choice?

What length chain do you have?

Do you recommend this style overall?

Any other advice?

Thanks a bunch!

Does your pendant flip?
Yes.  I have a 0.43ct pendant and had it in a illusion basket setting (I did both the 4 prong and 3 prong method) that was joined to the chain.  If it didn't flip (up & down), the other problem was the pendant was never centered in the middle of my neckline. I had to constantly realign the pendant.  My local jeweler told me it's because my diamond didn't have enough weight to keep it still and upright even though the connection was done at 10 and 2 o'clock.

Do you think this size will be nice or should I hold out til I can get a bigger one?
I think it's the perfect size.  Small enough for everyday wear and has enough of a presence for dressing up too.

Do you have the fixed bezel or the slider kind, and are you happy with your choice?
I have since bezeled my diamond and it looks bigger now.  I also put a bail on it so that I can interchange it with various chains depending on my mood and occasion.  Plus, with a bail, my diamond is always centered due to its weight.  However, I was very picky about the bail since I hate rabbit ears and don't want the bail to stand out too much.

What length chain do you have?
It used to be a 16" chain but now I can interchange my chains.

Do you recommend this style overall?
I think it would be gorgeous.  The bezel will make the diamond look whiter and larger.

Any other advice?
I can't wait to see it.
Thanks a bunch!

Chrono, thanks so much for your insights! Your pendant sounds lovely! I had not thought about the fixed pendant getting off center. That is a good point. Also, neat that you can put yours on different chain lengths.

I'm also still hoping to catch the attention of Piccolascimmia about her Blue Nile pendant!

Does your pendant flip?
no.  that was probably the most important criteria that i wanted in a pendant too.

i think the size is perfect.  i did end up going bigger and i am happy i did but i know i would have been fine with a smaller stone as well.  only you know what you will ultimately be happy with.

Thanks so much for replying! Belle, are you talking about your BEAUTIFUL Bellerina pendant? Or do you have a plain bezel as well?

Skippy, yours sounds great as well! May I ask is it from a pricescope vendor? (I'm in search of a bezel that doesn't flip!) Is it fixed or slider? THANKS!

Gail, I have a .5 ct bezel pendant (that I got at the Zales OUTLET many years ago, LOL, and I LOVE it!). It is probably my most versitale piece of jewelry. It has holes at the 10 and 2 positions for the chain to go through, so I don't have a flipping problem. I wear it with a 16" snake chain with blouses, and I have a two longer more delicate chains that I wear it on with sweater sets and things where you want it to hang a little lower. Really a great piece of jewelry--you'll get a ton of use out of it!

DeeJay,
My jeweller originally wanted to put the bezel with the 10 & 2 o'clock holes for me too but 2 of my chains are too thick for the holes.  She then tried to modify it with a loop in the back, but then decided that it would only make the diamond prone to flipping, so I went with a plain wide bail look.  The bail just blended in with my chain, and I still have interchangeability with thick/thin and long/short chains.

Hi gailrmv! Sounds like a fun project! I hope these details help...and just let me know if you have more questions about mine
-I was worried about 'mickey mouse ears' with mine, and I don't think my BN looks that way
-While I wanted to do WF's martini due to the floatiness of it, I ultimately was too price sensitive not to save the $$ on the BN piece (and now I see how the bezel makes it look bigger!). I was nervous about not having photos of the diamond through BN before purchase, but with all my criteria, I'm thrilled with the actual diamond and necklace. BN gave me the chance to search specifically for fluoro and ideal cut, and I also called them to ask about 'eyeclean'.
-Mine does shift around on my neck depending on what I'm doing. I habitually feel for it now to pull it back down to center.

Does your pendant flip?
Mine does flip, not too often, and I fix it and move on. It bothers me slightly, but not enough to really 'complain' about it.

Do you think this size will be nice or should I hold out til I can get a bigger one?
I love my size...it definitely looks bigger in the bezel! I wear it every day, and I feel like its just the right size (but of COURSE I'd love something bigger, but this was perfect for my budget).

Do you have the fixed bezel or the slider kind, and are you happy with your choice?
Mine is fixed...I'd love to consider a slider, but not sure if the weight of my diamond would really use it to keep centered. Maybe if the bezel were heavier. This could also help with mine getting off center.

What length chain do you have?
BN lets you pick between 16, 17 and 18, I think. I picked 18 because I wasn't sure and figured I could shorten it down the line to whatever size I really wanted.

Do you recommend this style overall?
LOVE mine. Of course I love others too, but overall am very happy with mine considering budget and expectations.

Any other advice?

Thanks a bunch!

Thanks so much Piccola! That really helps. I'm with you - BN is a still a little more affordable for what I'm looking at, and I really like the look of their thin bezel. I love my earrings from WF and they are such a fantastic company that I would feel great buying from them again, but it would end up costing a little more. I'm envisioning a little fun pendant for everyday, around $500, and I'm just not sure it's necessary to get something upgradeable for this purchase! Food for thought.

I;m glad that you are so happy with your pendant. The mickey mouse thing concerned me too, and I'm glad it is not a problem IRL.

By the way is the back of it open or closed? Does the culet poke you? I've read that is a criticism of the Tiffany version.

Thanks again!

Maybe my bezel is different, but it is a totally open backed bezel, yet the stone is set deep enough that the culet doesn't come near to touching my skin.  Well, it's not that deep set but it doesn't touch my skin either.  No idea about the Tiff bezel.

The back of the bezel is totally open and the culet doesn't poke me at all...the back of the bezel is deep enough to protect it/me.

And FYI, I can't remember if I looked for cheaper options thru BN - mine was 687 for the diamond, 200 for the necklace.

I actually got it from Costco about 2 years ago; I know they still sell them.  It is .35 carat and mine is also like DeeJays where it has holes at the 10 and 2 positions for the chain to go through, so I don't have a flipping problem

I love mine; it was $680 I think.  Which Costco are you located by?  My cousin is the store manager of one of the Costcos if you want I can ask if they can ship it there or maybe give you the number to mine and they could ship it over for you to look at.  Just a thought.  Let me know

Skippy, thanks! Well, I am located in NC, not sure about you? That is a great idea actually - if you don't mind sharing the location of the store where you saw the pendant then if my store doesn't have it, maybe they could "bring it in." Although it's a little above my mental budget so I'd have to think it over before I caused anyone any trouble...

Gail, great news.  I talked to my cousin and she said to call you Costco and ask for Item number 488379 Dia Pend to be shipped to you,  that the Wilmington Costco have 2 of them but none is Durham.  I have no clue where you live in NC.   I will take a picture of it and have my hubby help me posted it on your thread if you like later when he gets home tonight???

My Costco has one.  the number (505) 332-6603; my cousin said it is easier to have the Wilmington Costco send it to you.  Hope that helps.

Skippy, WOW I can't thank you enough for talking to your cousin on my behalf! I can get to either the Durham or Raleigh Costcos. I will go tomorrow or call them and see if they could bring the one from Wilmington to the local store so that I could try it on before I bought it. It sounds like they will do that!? The fact that yours doesn't flip is a huge factor. If you did have a chance to take pics, that would be so nice. I hate to trouble you further though!

Thanks again!!!!!

Yes, she said call your local Costco or go there and make sure you give them the item number 488379 so they bring in the right one.  I will try and take a pic tonight; I love mine

guess what, the Raleigh store has one! At least that's what the guy said, and I am on hold right now while they verify the details!

OK - they do have it! Cool! I did realize though, for $680 I could have one from WF in similar size that is AGS00, comes with a cert and upgrade policy and that's really compelling. Still, it will be fun to go and look and try it on. Knowing that it doesn't flip is HUGE. I think that flipping would bug me! I had kinda set $500 in my head as what I wanted to spend now and this is a little over... or I could always wait... anyway this is great food for thought and I never would have known that Costco had anything similar so I am very thankful!

Jumping in here: Are you just looking for an example of the bezel setting at Costco or are you planning to buy the pendant from Costco?  If so, what specs are you looking for?  I'm just being nosy.

Oh, I'm not sure... To be honest I think if spending that much money i want to get a certed ideal cut... but I'm not sure what kind of certs the Costco settings have. I guess I will look at it and figure it out.

I'm a size lover, esp for a pendant, so I think it might have better color and clarity than I care about - but I do look forward to seeing it especially in light of Skippy's glowing recommendation!

It came w/a cert but it is very pretty.  I know it isn't hearts and arrows.  It is sparkly.  I will post pics tonight.
