I am shopping for an engagement ring...really just the stone and will let her pick out her setting/mounting. I have come across a local seller that is selling his ring due to a broken engagement and is willing to meet me at a local jeweler to verify. It is listed as 1.15 E VS Princess cut and he is selling for $2000 which seems pretty low to me (based on this sites price search). Couple questions: Is that a real good price for that stone if it in fact is what he says it is? Also, is going to a random jeweler in the area the best way to verify the stone? I do not have a jeweler I use regularly so I would just pick one out of the yellow pages. Any insight is greatly appreciated. |

Good deal if it is really what it is. Any certs? Do you know anything about the most important C, CUT? But NO going to a jeweler won't tell you anything. Spend $100 and have him meet you at an independent appraiser (read: not someone who works at a jewelry store OR sells stones) before you buy it. The appraiser can assess the cut, clarity, any inclusions, color, etc. That's the ONLY way I would buy from a random person.

Questions: Is the stone certified and by whom? Some of the particulars like depth and table percentage and measurements would be helpful. It's possible that you're getting a great deal, and equally as possible that you're not. If you post the particulars from a certification and also who issued the certification you'll have no problem getting several good responses. Good Luck, vsdiamondbrokers
