Hello this is my first post, hopefully I can get some good advice. I found this ring online and wondering how you would judge it on paper: 3.06 ct Princess cut 7.91-7.62 x 5.92mm depth - 7.7% width - 70.9% crown height - 40% Pav. depth - 60% girdle thickness - medium polished polish, symetry - VG cutles - none flur - very slight it's listed as a vs1 and J color Opinions? If it's not worth looking at, then any suggestions Thx, Adam |

Which lab has graded this diamond? It is not square, if that matters to you. Assuming you mean 77% for the depth, it is on the deep side.

J color faces up white in a well-cut round, but in a princess shape it may show more warmth that you are comfortable with.

Without knowing your budget this is a shot in the dark, but here are some AGS0 stones I'd look at in the 2 ct. range: http://www.whiteflash.com/aca_princess/A-Cut-Above-Princess-cut-diamond-78228.htm http://www.whiteflash.com/aca_princess/A-Cut-Above-Princess-cut-diamond-171980.htm

I like this http://www.whiteflash.com/aca_princess/A-Cut-Above-Princess-cut-diamond-171980.htm. Is there any benefit or value in getting a round vs square diamond?

Benefit to a round? Only if you love rounds! Well cut rounds will show color less than other shapes, but are generally a bit more expensive, so no, if you love princess, get that. Rounds ARE a bit easier to buy than others because there is a simple formula, etc. that you can use to quickly see if it's a good stone or not. IMO if you are going to get a princess, the Whiteflash ACA's are a great choice. They seem to have nice clean patterns. I don't think you can go wrong with one of those.

Is there any benefit or value in getting a round vs square diamond? I would find out for SURE how your GF feels about princess cut stones because I have strong opinoins on them... they are the only cut I DID NOT want for my center stone... just personal taste but I know some people who feel that way also and some other people who love them. I like other square diamonds though, just not princess for me...

=) lots of girls love princesses so it is really up to personal preference. I personally love square step cuts (asscher & emerald) I just like that they have a nice, orderly look to them. Asschers are square, and Emeralds can come in squares, or more rectangular shapes. They don' t sparkle as much as "flash" whereas princesses look like smashed sparkles. Rounds are great cause they look big, hide color and inclusions well, and are the easiest to buy, have tons of available settings etc. Princesses are probably the second easiest and most popular they still look big, and are sparkly, however they show color a bit more. Asschers & emeralds look really small and are probably the most risk if you don't know your girlfriends taste at all. They are also rarer and take a lot more patience, wheras you could probably snap up a round or princess within a few days.
