Sorry - I can never resist a pun. I posted last week about The Quest for the Moebius Wedding Band, but couldn''t post any pics because of my sad lack of tech. However, today the new camera arrived ....

J, VS2, 1.46, with an additional .25 worth of tapered baguettes in a vintage platinum cathedral fishtail setting.

I''m still looking for the perfect bands, and, while I''m still attached to the moebius concept, I''d welcome and and all suggestions.

And, geekily enough, my first proud success at capturing a rainbow. This place is *addictive*!

More pics more pics!!!! I really love your ring!!!

I really love the bag sides on your ring and the cool prongs, they are awesome!

By the way, what''s your ring size? It looks huge on your hand.

Cool...So, is the setting a real antique or a replica? Are the fishtails referring to the prongs? I like it!

I just love fishtails and would not necessarily think of fishtails with tapered baguettes, but your combo is absolutely delightful! I cannot wait to see what bands you pick. That sounds like a tough one...your ring is so beautiful on its own. Thanks for sharing

Heh - thanks, ladies! I think the perspective may be a tad skewed on some of the "extreme closeup" shots, but I love playing with the diamond enough that I couldn''t resist: the pic down below is probably more accurate size-wise in relation to my finger, though less pretty in terms of light-play (and, also, features a little sizer-guard thing that I made in lieu of just sizing it, as I know I''m one of those people who has magic morphing fingers when warm weather hits). I''m a size 5.5, and the ring''s a six ... close enough that I''ll wait for summer until I make the decision, to size or not to size.

My gut instinct, and everything I''ve read, tells me that the setting''s pretty likely genuine vintage: alas, it doesn''t have the "pedigree" that your gorgeous e-ring does, Surfgirl! We got it and the stone on the same day ... went to a dealer buddy of my dad''s who showed me a bunch of finished rings, and a few loose stones. The finished rings were all gorgeous, but very traditional, and all emerald cuts ... tempting to me, as I love the gleam, but less so to the fiance, who is not so much a jewelry afficionado. And, curiously, the white-white-white of the D-E-F range just looked somehow wrong against my skin. Then he showed us the loose stones ... love at first sight! The depth of the J was just irresistable. Setting-wise, though ....

I had some vague ideas about how I wanted it set, but I was thinking a bezel (since I work with my hands, protecting the girdle seemed like a good idea), and maybe rose gold to offset the J color. The dealer was horrified! Seriously, I''ve known this guy my whole life, and I''d never seen him so ... offended. He pulled an enormous sack of mountings out of the safe, explaining earnestly that a diamond *needed* light, and a diamond *needed* white metal. I''m usually pretty stubborn, but the first setting I saw winking up at me was the fishtail, so ... yeah. Same experience as with the diamond, and we were out of there in an hour ....

Judging from the hallmarks, the materials, and the design, I''d guess it''s probably a post-war piece, maybe as late as the 60''s: it''s hallmarked 10%IRID./PLAT., with an H in a circle as the maker''s mark ... maybe a Craftsman piece? Who knows (anyone? anyone? Bueller?) Either way, I love it - the heavy prongs protect pretty much the entire circumference of the stone from accidental knocks, and I love the blending of 19th c. and Deco looks between the head and the baguettes.

Er ... apologies for the rambling - no coffee yet! Now, pics ....

Circe, it looks lovely. I only saw one setting like that (I didn't know they were called 'fishtail' prongs at the time) at a vintage shop in LA (Single Stone) and I also thought that it would protect the center stone very well. I love how yours sort of "cushions out" your center stone a wee bit and also visually extends the spread across your finger. Love that visual play!

And Circe, my ring certainly isn't "pedigree"

I think it's more like a mutt that I rescued...In fact, I think yours is too, in the sort of way that you rescued the stone and put it in a setting that really shows it off to its best qualities. And much like a mutt, it's probably wagging its proverbial tail saying "See?! See how nice and sparkly and shiny I can be for you?! Aren't you glad you rescued me???" What?!? Come On. You know your ring talks to you, right? Just admit it!

ETA: You're quite right about certain stones just looking "right" against one's skin tone. It's a funny thing how that happens...It just goes to show that it's not all scientific in choosing the right stone. Sometimes you just have to wait for the one that just "works!"

Hee! It totally does (and it says things like, "Cleeaaaaaaan me", and then *I* say, "Yeees, preeeecious," and then I feel like Gollum, and, well, anyway, *moving on*). I hope that didn''t come off as a crack ... I just couldn''t think of a better way to term it. You have such a wonderful ring finding story! And I love the idea of having such concrete markers of which era it dates to - not to mention the beauty of the transition cut.

Also, because I''m a Neo-Luddite nit ... how do you guys edit your posts? When I have something I''d like to fix (like, say, a blank post where the picture didn''t show), I cannot for the life of me find the editing button *anywhere* ....

Circe, your post cracked me up because my FI calls my ering "your precioussssss" too!

How to edit your posts...You''ve got to do editing within a certain time frame on this site, otherwise you cant edit anymore. When you go back to your recent posts, if you are still able to edit, you''ll see an "Edit Post" button in gray, over the top righthand corner of your post. Hope that helps!

And #2, to herald the coming of night ... fluorescence! I''m so fascinated by the odder properties of diamonds, fluorescence first and foremost among them (though pearl diamonds, opalescent diamonds, etc., also excite my inner rockhound). When I got it, I kinda hoped that it might have fluorescence, and from the way it reacted in bright sunlight, I thought it might. However, once I got my hands on a black-light, I was a bit surprised to discover that it wasn''t the blue I''d been anticipating, but what I suppose must be white fluorescence, from the descriptions I''ve read (finding an image is nigh on impossible, as far as I''ve been able to tell). Weird, but fun ...

Hm ... wonder how a "Show me your fluorescence thread!" would go over ....

I really love your ring, it''s perfectly proportioned and very classic. There are definitely benefits to buying rings in person =) It gives you the opportunity to try styles you wouldn''t consider and find ones that work for you.
