So I think I may have found a stone at Good Old Gold, now I'm thinking of settings. I really like the look of the Classic Tiffany setting. I know SuperbCert makes a very close replica, however I also like the Sunburst. How do you all think the quality and finish would compare on these two? Also, I was reading back on Demelza (sp?) previous posts about finding a band to go with her SuperbCert, and it looked like she was having a hard time finding one. I personally loved the Michael B. Lace with it. But, I was thinking that if I went with the Sunburst then Mark Morrell could make a band to go with it, and have it be similar to Michael B. Do you guys think the Sunburst looks similar to the classic Tiffany's? And the Sunburst is not a knife edge, right? P.S. Did Demelza ever get her stone re-set? It looked like it was in the SuperbCert, then she attempted Lockes, then what? Just curious....... Kathleen |

Based on personal taste, I kind of prefer the sunburst setting more than the Tiffany's.

Both are from what I understand well made classic rings. The MM will be a bit more expensive I believe, but it is more unique than the classic tiffany. I wouldn't worry about the craftsmanship on either, and yes MM can make a band to go with your ring I'm sure. If you want it quickly, you could most likely get the superbcert faster, but I just LOVE the sunburst, and I like that it's a little different but still classic. Just my .02.

I can't speak to the architectural differences, but I can tell you that MM's Sunburst design is the most gorgeous solitaire setting I've ever seen. The prongs and head on the Tiffany (or Tiffany inspired) design don't compare, IMO. I'm sure many experts will chime in for you regading specifics. Love the MM, though... -J

I would prefer the MWM myself. The supercert is lovely... but its a replica. The sunburst stands on it's own merits though. And I like that about Mark's work. He uses other's designs as references but ultimately puts his stamp on the final product. And he's really good at that.

I recently upgraded my wedding set. If I had been willing to wait for a custom setting, I would have gone for a MWM. I do love the Sunburst!

I would go with MM. I have an original classic Tiffany ring and I must say so many people have asked me if it is from Tiffany's. I would be very unconfortable if I were to be wearing a replica. Just my 2 cents. I am sure MM can make a matching band with the Sunburst. Jewels |

Do a search on MM to reference his quality and finish. It is way beyond the SC IMHO. MM takes an inordinate amount of time to polish and finish EVERY crevice and nook and cranny on his work I have a MM setting and it is just perfect. As to the design though that is a personal issue. The MM sunburst is not a replica, it stands on it's own merits and beauty. The extra touches are what makes it stand out. If you actually want a setting that looks Tiffany though the SC would be the way to go. MM can certainly make you a band to go with the sunburst. I don't think it would be any/much more than the Michael B and you could get exactly what you want. my .02c! a

I personally don't like the top of the prongs on the MM. I think they stick out too much and I don't like the heart shape. I actually will go as far as to say the fact that they are heart shaped is cheesy - just my opinion. I think the quality is wonderful and the shank is beautiful as well as the profile but I can't get past the top of the prongs. I do love the replica setting and would have no problem buying it. Good luck.

I kinda agree about the prongs. They do stand out a lot. But the beauty of MM is that he can do whatever prongs you want on that ring. It's not mass-produced, he makes each one personally. a

Ohhhh.............thanks for all the advice guys. It helps so much. We're so lucky to have each other here!! As for the Mark Morrell prongs, I was also kind of thinking that I'd ask him to make them a little more "subtle." Oh my goodness, all these decisions!!!
