For those of you that read my recent posts you know that I have fallen in love with a setting at Blue Nile and would really like to find a great princess diamond there for it... unfortunately, I have not had much luck finding one and am looking for other alternatives. We are ready to make our purchase and after months of saving we don't want to wait around much longer for BN to get in more diamonds. My new solution is two-fold, first I am considering a round diamond instead of the princess since BN offers a bigger selection of AGS round diamonds, second I am considering going with the original setting with a round diamond OR possibly a second choice setting (which I also loved but eliminated because I was going with a princess and it is for a round diamond... it is also a little cheaper). First, I was hoping you could all take a look at the following round diamonds and tell me which you think is best, I have been mainly researching princess diamonds so I know very little about round diamonds.

Choice 1: http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&pid=LD01014002&filter_id=1
Choice 2: http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&pid=LD01022372&filter_id=1
Choice 3: http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&pid=LD00973060&filter_id=1
Choice 4: http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&pid=LD00998025&filter_id=1
Choice 5: http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&pid=LD01013697&filter_id=1

Next, I would really appreciate your input on my setting. If I decide to go with one of these round diamonds would you suggest sticking with my first setting or going with the second setting? Which do you prefer?

First setting: http://www.bluenile.com/product_details.asp?oid=6219&page=1&show_all_pages=1&filter_id=1&col=1&row=17&pos=49&set_shape=

Second setting: http://www.bluenile.com/product_details.asp?oid=6711&page=1&show_all_pages=1&filter_id=1&col=2&row=15&pos=44&set_shape=
(Does anyone know of any actual ring pictures that have a similar setting, I would love to see something similar in a hand shot)

Finally, as I said I don't know much about round diamonds... what does it mean when it says "faceted" next to the girdle size and is that prefered or bad? Also is a pointed or a very small cutlet OK or should I avoid that. Once again, I can't thank you all enough for your help and opinions.

Hoping for success this time around,

Will you be happy with a round or will you feel you settled for it ??
As far as the setting, I think settings are personal so what I think doesn't carry much weight but since you asked I like your original choice better than the second choice.

As far as the diamonds, they all look GREAT to me.  I have a soft spot in my heart for H VS2 since that is what I have . . . I would vote for the 1.16 H VS2 . . . you #2 listed . . . but you can choose any of the above and I think you have agreat chance of loving it.

All personal choices, so these are just my opinions.
Good Luck and let us know what you decide.

Both settings are beautiful...I don't think that you could go wrong with either. I was going to ask the same thing about if you would just be settling for a round when you really want a princess.  This is such an important (and major) purchase, you really should make sure that you get what you will be happiest with.

Thanks to you both for your input. It is true I had my heart set on a princess but the difficulty I have been having finding the "right" one and my frustration towards it is making me feel like maybe the princess isn't meant to be. We are going to take a trip to a local jewelry store this weekend so I can try on some of both and see how I feel about them. I think rounds are beatiful as well so I don't think I would be disappointed. I will have to see how they strike me in person.

Also, just out of curosity, all of the diamonds are fairly close in price but which do you feel is the best value for the price? We had a budget of $7000-7500 for the diamond so all of these choices fall within our budget but if one is better priced for what it offers than another one I would be happy saving a little money towards the wedding. Thanks!

You just need to give the princess search a little more time... you really haven't been searching that long!!!

I agree that you shouldn't setting. Bill at Icemine.com Wink at Winfield's, pearlman's etc. all have AGS000 princess stones. have you contacted any of them? also WF and Goodoldgold have amazing princess stones too. I wouldn't give up just yet.

as for the BN setting. they are nice but there are a ton of similar settings out there, I wouldn't sacrifice the shape of stone I wanted or the cut of the stone just for a BN setting, but that's just me. I think going to look is person is such a great idea. rings never looking like the do in the giant pic on our computers. please keep us posted as to what you find out..

I agree with MrSalvo. Additionally, I've heard more than a few bad things about the quality of BN settings (not their diamonds, just their settings)...personally I think you could find something similar or have something made, AND get the stone you want, from one of the other online dealers. I used to like BN a lot because I find their page very user-friendly but I've since been "converted" haha.

We are going to a local jeweler this weekend to get a better idea of how things look in person, I will let you all know how that turns out.
