Weight : 1.86 CT.
Size : 7.1X7.1X4.2 MM.
Shape : Round
Colour : HOT ELECTRIC RED
Clarity : SI
Luster : EXCELLENT
Origin : MADAGASCAR
Type : 100% NATURAL
Treatment : NATURAL HEATED

This will be a RHR and I want the setting budget to stay below $1000. My taste doesn't tend to run with current trends, so I'm not looking for lots of pave. I can see this in either a legitimate vintage type setting or in a more modern, minimal setting. I love the buttery richness of 18k yellow gold, but also appreciate both a liquid or matte finished white metal. My fingers are thick (size 8) and not very long, and I'm in my mid-40s, if that helps. I don't object to some accent pave, but the ruby is meant to be the focal point. I don't want to get fussy.

Please drop in with tips, ideas, pictures, photoshops. I love to see what others come up with, and I want this project to be something special!

Here is a vintage setting that I think would be gorgeous, however I'm worried that my 7.1 mm stone might not fit.

"This exquisite Estate Deco Style mounting ring is handcrafted in solid platinum. The center is designed to hold a round stone of approx. 1.00-1.25 carat, approx. 6 1/2mm in diameter. The rest is elaborated by several genuine round diamonds, approx. 0.55 carat in total, H color, VS clarity. This item is in very good condition!"

setting probably won't fit.  unless you can engineer prongs to come out of it.

i'm personally seeing etienne perret with this.  www.etienneperret.com

Here's an option from Pearlman's. It was made to hold a 7mm.

**This is the one I'm leaning toward. I'd love it if someone would photoshop the stone color to reflect how the ruby would look. Thanks! **

Dover Jewelers, an estate and vintage jewelry store.

Here's another setting that I keep coming back to. My stone wouldn't fit in this, but I could have this custom made.

i love this pearlman's setting and think it would suit your ruby....and it would allow you to see more of it.

Oh my, I think James Meyer is exactly what you are describing!

I absulutely love these rings! My big probem is that I was trying to switch over to wearing all white metals because I perceive they look better on me, but then I see these and think the stones are just gorgeous in yellow gold! I'd really love to have all the rings I just posted!

~~~ When in doubt...don't.~~~
I really like the 2nd Pearlman's setting.  I keep looking at it on his website.  It is very attractive.
Oh my, forgot to tell you that I LOVE the color of your ruby.
Looks nothing like what the mall stores call a ruby!
