What are the next steps after you find the 'right' stone?

hot4teacher Rough Rock Total Posts: 32 Last Post: 4/13/2007 Member Since: 10/22/2006	In all of this research to educate myself about diamonds, I think I missed the chapter on what to do after you found the 'one'. I realize it would be in my best interest to make the purchase 'safe' that I should have it appraised, but what happens next? Let's say I want it set at XXXX which also is where I purchased the diamond. Since I currently live in Japan, I have two concerns: 1) Shipping. Fedex ships to Japan and I haven't heard of any negatives about shipping to Japan (taxes?), but would you feel comfortable having a ring shipped overseas? I see that no popular retailer offers to ship to Japan. (We're talking final product) 2) Return policies. I really hope it wouldn't happen but if it does, see #1 regarding shipping it back. Thoughts?
