well this is no where near enough to go on butI'd likely pass based on "good" sym and what seems like a widly varying girdle - o clue if that means anything but also the clarity is a bit overkill.... I'd drop to vs2 and spend the money elsewhere.... but again - this isn't remotely enough info to go on.  LInk the stone.

I'm not buying it from Blue Nile directly, my friend bought it from them and doesn't want it. It's 2 months old.

Not thrilled.  .58, not .78.   Huge table.  I also think the l/w is awkward.  Asking price?

Yeah sorry I meant .58 ct.

He's asking for $900, he paid around $1,200 for it.

For around $600 more, you could buy a MUCH better stone. Check BN's signature ideal princesses, and search PS for ideal princess cut numbers so you'll know what to look for.

I'd help more, but I'm a round brilliant girl!

I agree, not the greatest stone even for a good price unless it's exactly what you want. I'd save up a bit more and buy one that's better cut...

why doesn't he want it?
i agree with ebree and mrss, save up a little and buy something nice.  you aren't even getting a great deal on the ring.

He doesn't want it because he got turned down. Is it really not a good deal for $900?

not when you can get a real sparkler like this http://www.whiteflash.com/xfactor/xfactor-cut-diamond-10.htm# for about $200 more.

ditto belle. the stone she linked you to would blow the other one out of the sparkle water. when buying a diamond the Cut is the most important "C" and is what makes a stone sparkle and have life. It can make diamonds look bigger and whiter than they really are.

what do you want it for?  to help him out? get it off his hands?  you love it beyond reason and think you're getting it for a steal?

Have you seen it?  do you love it?  Someone's sigline here says it's only a good deal if you think it's a good deal - or something like that.  If it's exactly what you want and you're happy with the price - that's all that matters.  If you're just getting it for no reason other than hoping you got a good deal, you'll likely regret wasting the money.
