Somebody please give me an opinion; I am a novice to this site and to diamonds.  I am wondering what would be a ball-park figure on a 2.42 carat Lazare Kaplan round briliant cut.  The stone is I color and SI1 clarity.  The GIA gives it Excellent in cut, polish, and symmetry.  Other stats

Depth: 61.3%
Table: 57.2%
Crown: 35 (angle)
Depth: 41 (angle)
Very Small Culet
Medium Girdle

The cut advisor gave it a 2.4.  I don't want to get ripped off but am willing to pay a slight premium for the Lazare name .... is 28-30k a reasonable estimate???? I know I could get similar non-Lazare specs for low to mid
 20s probably.  Please help???

It's probably lovely, and probably well priced.  I think your assumptions are overall right on.  You might just want to make sure you're optimizing as you'd like.  Consider ordering up something like this one, setting it beside your Lazare, and making sure you still like the Lazare better.

The closest I could find here was a 2.18 I VS2 for $21,000.

I'd personally choose an ACA stone over paying a premium for the Lazarre name, but only you can answer how much you're willing for pay for the name.

~~~ When in doubt...don't.~~~
Thank you (and diamondseeker) for the reply.  I have looked at quite a few stones and feel like the Lazares are by far the most beautiful and my favorite.... this one is definitely amazing and it is Lazare.... Probably should have clarified - I think I can probably get the actual stone for 25-26k (originally listed for 34 and have been heavily negotiating) and setting and taxes will put me around 29.
I started this diamond-hunting process knowing nothing about diamonds and am finally learning a little.  Cut has become my first priortiy (hence my preference for Lazare) followed by size.  I think the stone is pretty and feel comfortable that it is Lazare. On the downside, I have a mental image of myself throwing away an extra 5 thousand dollars because I am a novice (I hate that feeling).
I appreciate the help and any other thoughts on Lazare values and a reasonable premium that might be associated with them.....
I'm sure that the Lazare's are very beautiful....Have you compared this particular one to other Lazare's???
The reason I ask, is that the numbers on this particular stone might cause some light leakage in the center (both the crown and pavillion angles are on the high side....)...you might want to do a search of "steep-deep" stones to learn more.....
If you are able to view the stone through an ideal-scope or get an idealscope (or similar) photo, you could check this out....
Lazare Kaplan diamonds are beautiful, but so are the ACA's from Whiteflash!  I'd pick the WF one hands down and spend that money getting a bigger stone or matching tennis bracelet!
