For those of you who have non matching eternity bands to e-rings (such as a solitaire e-ring with a diamond eternity band wedding ring) did you match your wedding band width to your e-ring width? I have a solitaire e-ring with a plain band and am looking at getting a diamond eternity band (e.g. Facets, Memoire, etc).

I don't know if I should be matching the 2.5mm width of the e-ring or just stay within the range of the width or just disregard it altogether? I don't really prefer matchy matchy looks so the width doesn't have to match to look like it sits flush or anything but I was wondering if most people match the widths so that it looks proportional.

If anyone has a ring size of 3-4, please share your eternity band carat weight. I've looked through a lot of the eternity band threads but have only found one or two within that range. If I'm looking to stay close to 2.5mm, I'm trying to gauge what carat weight I should be looking at for my ring size of 3.25.

Thanks!!

I matched the width of my band to my e-ring.  I have a size 4.5 finger.  The band has 9 diamonds at .04 points.  It looks like an eternity band.  The stones go all the way to the edge of my finger.  It is 2.3 mm and my e-ring is 2.5 tapering down to 2.3.

I don't think it looks right if the band is thicker than your e-ring.  But some people prefer thick bands.  Hope that helps.

My ring size is 6.  As you can see, my eternity and wedding set are not flush or width matchy.  It doesn't bother me but I can see how it might bother some people.

Thanks Gothgrrl and JustJulia!

Gothgrrl, do you have a photo of your diamond band? I may have seen it before but can't recall.

Justjulia- your eternity band is so shiny! You have quite a set there. Yeah, I don't think a small width difference would bother me but I'm also unsure what total carat weight to get something in the general range of width of my e-ring. I may call Signed Pieces to drill them with some questions.

Anyone else have suggestions or input on their ring sets?

diamondlove, what size is your center stone? I like for eternity bands to compliment the center without overpowering it. I wore an eternity band of 3 pointers with my 1 carat solitaire on a size 3.5 finger.

here's a picture of my old set.

I think you're gonna have to go try them on. Your ring style is very versatile and I think almost anything would look great with it as long as the thickness (up and down, not width) is right together.

Mrssalvo, my stone is 1.81. we're practically ring size twins! I rarely find people around the size 3 range. Your photo reaffirms that I def. like the look of a solitaire with an eternity band.

gailrmv, good point-- I didn't even think about the thickness of the eternity band being an issue! The only problem is that if i'm thinking of ordering it online it'll be hard for me to determine the thickness since most sites only give band width. Will places like Signed Pieces offer thickness to me (I know I should just try and ask)? I assume it's the diamond sizes that alter the thickness? hmmm

ETA: Mrssalvo-- Congrats on finding your new setting! I just saw your thread-- it's so lovely-- I love antiquey settings.

Actually, Signed Pieces does give the thickness and the width.  Just click on "Click here for a detailed description."

Well, here's my humble 2 cents (since you asked!  )

(Even though it's not what I have) I love the look of a solitaire w/ an eternity band.
But I think it's important to take not just the width into consideration, but also the depth and the general SHAPE of the ring.  I also think that they need to be tried on to really see what's best.  For example, Demelza had a heckuva time finding something she liked with her solitaire.

And THAT'S my story and I'm sticking to it!

I very much like the width of the diamond band to be close to the width of the e-ring. From all my trying on, I had decided that 7 point stones were good if I went with a 2.5mm e-ring or 10 points if I went with a 3mm e-ring. And as you probably know, my center stone is 1.63 cts. and could handle either size without competing. Your diamond is a little larger than mine, so I think yours could handle either, too. However, knowing that the Lockes band is about 2.4-2.5mm, and especially since you are thinking full eternity, I'd go with the smaller stones (6-7mm) which would have about a 2.5mm width. So do not go by total carat weight, go by the size of the diamonds. My rings are both 3mm (10-11 point diamonds) and it is almost too much bling for me. I'd for sure go with the smaller one if I had gone with the Lockes.

I'd be tempted to try Facets because of the prices, but I don't know if any of their bands are set as low as the Memoire. And I think you will need your eternity band set super-low to not be thicker than your e-ring plus be low enough for the head of the e-ring. But at least you know the Memoire would probably work if you had to get it.

I tried on a 2ct eternity band (.10 each) and it looked really nice with my 1.74ct.  I forgot to ask who the designer was, but it sat flush with my solitaire.  I have considered Signed Pieces assuming it would sit flush, but now I'm worried.

Jayrenay9-- I didn't realize that- haha, I'm so glad you pointed that out.

Lynn B- Of course your opinion is welcomed-- I love all the useful input PSers have and that's why I'm always turning to you guys. I have tried on a few and do like the look of my e ring with an eternity band. However, it's hard to determine how it will precisely look bc most of the samples in jewelry stores are huge on my finger.

DS2006, I love your Memoire but it is just so pricey if I want a full eternity so I'm still weighing that out. The reason why I'm concerned with getting less than a full eternity is bc of the potential spinning. Have you experienced your ring spinning around constantly? I think it may bother me if it spins a lot and I have to turn it around to have the diamonds showing upright.

I had bought a channel set eternity ring from SP before I even got the diamond set, and I realized it just wouldn't work because the thickness of the two rings would not be the same. And I can't stand to see an eternity band thicker than the e-ring. It's hard to explain, but when you look at the hand, it appears that the eternity band sticks out wider on the sides of the finger than does the e-ring. I'd hunt a picture but I wouldn't want to offend someone!

For some reason mine don't spin at all. I guess I don't have big knuckles, so my rings fit well, not too loose, not too tight. But I'll have to tell you, as young as you are, I'd be afraid to get a full eternity with the hope of wearing it for a lifetime.

I know exactly what you're talking about.  I was just thinking about that today.  I was even considering going a 1/4 size smaller on the band just to make sure it wasn't any "bigger."

Am I remembering correctly that Pearlman's carry Memoire bands? I can't seem to find one to look at in person in Houston. Their website says Bailey Biddle and Neiman Marcus carries them but I didn't see any at BBB and I keep forgetting to check when I'm at Neiman's.

Mine rings don't spin either.  I think it depends on finger type.  Mine are tapered rather than smaller below the nuckle.  Not my favorite finger type, but what I got!

Pearlmans does carry them, but they're not listed under the memoire name.  They listed as Pearlmans with memoire in the description.

Here's one as an example:

http://www.thefacetscollection.com/item.cfm?item_id=2138

Ring is 2.5mm wide and it is 1.8mm thick (and I have zero idea how thick mine is, unfortunately). In a size 4, there are 24 diamonds for a total of 1.02 carats, which makes the stones  4.25 points each.

I looked at another one with just a little larger carat weight, but it had a thickness of 2.1mm, so I would eliminate that. You really need to look and find which one has the least thickness. The real problem may be that you'll have to have them specially make you one in your size, so it may not be as easy to return. You really have to be sure about the thickness issue and that really can only be done by trying one on. You might have to order a 4 just to try one on, and then have the smaller one made if it works.

I also need to go with platinum because my e-ring is platinum, right? I remember reading something about how WG scratches Platinum if they are next to each other. I'm not sure if I am misremembering this.

Hi DiamondLove,

I started a thread on this a while ago asking the same question.

http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=51372&forumID=3&catID=&search=1&searchstring=

I haven't found any proof of the two metals scratching each other. In my first post, I also linked to an article I found where a jewelry "expert" gives some pretty good reasons why scratching shouldn't be a problem.

Based on this, I decided to buy a palladium wedding ring to go with my WG e-ring, but I can't comment on any wear since I haven't worn them together for a significant amount of time.

Hope that helps!

I think the best reason is that they just look different over time. Platinum will turn grayish and 18k wg may turn a little yellow. My mother wears some of both and they don't hurt each other, but they clearly do not match either.

thanks for the link Elsie!

So would I still notice a color difference with an eternity band since it'll be mostly diamonds with a bit of metal here and there you think?

I didn't realize picking an eternity band would be so much trouble when I don't even need it to be a matchy set.

THANK YOU Ch2006!

I went there today and finally got to see some Memoires in person.  They are nice and less scratchy than other eternity bands I've tried on.  I managed to take a few not so great photos I'll try to post tonight.

The full eternity 2ct tw in platinum was $5,000! It wasn't in my size of course so the price should be lower once it is sized down to a size 3.25 and it'd be less total carat weight since I like the 10 pointer stones.  I think I'm okay with .7-10 pt stones but not any bigger than that and not much smaller than that bc I want to be able to wear it by itself and have it look substantial enough.

The salesperson is going to find out the price for me and also whether I can get one where it covers 3/4 of my finger leaving just a bit for future sizing purposes but not so much metal that I'd have an issue if it spins.

Gothgrrl, thank you for posting your beautiful set! Do you experience any spinning at all?

DL, I am so glad you could try some on! There really are differences in quality. But you know, I think a 9 stone band would wrap more than halfway around a size 3.25!

My band doesn't really spin.  It stays put, but my e-ring spins more....I think I need to size it smaller.  Anyhow, I really love my SP band so much that I probably will get another one in the future.

I just want to preface the photos by warning that these are not even up to my normal photo standards (which are not high) since I was rushing through them being at a jewelry store and all. I thought it was nice enough that the lady even permitted me to take the photos so I didn't want to take too long with each one.

Most of the photos are of the 10 pointer full eternity memoire ring (2ct total) since that's the one I loved most but there are a few photos of the smaller memoire which totaled somewhere around 1 carat and then there's a big honker of a Tacori ring that equaled 6 carats (yeah, 6 carat eternity band) which was HUMONGOUS on my finger in both size of ring and stone so it looked funny.

Lastly, I have photos of an eternity ring of emerald cut diamonds (per the sales lady) which did not fit my round solitaire so much and a channel set half eternity ring.
