I will be shopping for my engagement ring this week. I like square shaped centers, not necessarily princess cut. My local jeweler will be showing me diamonds this week. I have to call and let them know what shapes to bring in. But, I also don't want my BF to pay a lot more for a special cut. Depending on price too...which cut diamond would be best? I like radiant cuts that are more square. Any other cuts I should consider that have a lot of sparkle? I am looking into a 1-1.25 center stone, possible square, round or trillion (what I really want) side stones with maybe some kind of pave or something below that... kind of like this... We are hoping to spend about eight thousand. Oh..and my fingers are tiny, around 4 1/4. "My fiance' is my best friend...but my diamond is a close second!" |

Within each shape there are better and poorer types. I don't think anyone call tell you which has the most brilliancy or sparkle among any of the square stones based on facet arrangement. Telling which one of these has the most brilliancy AND sparkle would be even more of a challenge as these attributes are somewhat independent of each other, depending on the definition of each. We don't all use the same definitions among ourselves. The faceting will have an effect on your perception of appearance and beauty. You may find you prefer the more popular princess cuts over radiant or more unique square cuts. Maybe your concept of what is best is more individual. No one can say, but you. Compare a few stones. Decide on the best faceting arrangement and then look a some choices within just that facet arrangement. At least, it is a systematic way to go about the process. Make sure you see enough to make an informed choice BEFORE you commit to a stone. David S. Atlas |

I would go for the radiant's sparkle, but only because I prefer the layout of the faceting to the other two--NOT because it's necessarily any more sparkly or beautiful. I think all three of those cuts will give you plenty of sparkle (but then again, I'm an asscher person, haha)... assuming of course that the quality of cut is high. You'll probably find yourself leaning towards one or another when you start to see them in person! Make sure to post pics once the ring is complete Congratulations!!
