Hello to all!

Facets, what is the rule of thumb on facets of diamonds? I was under the impression that 56 facets are the norm...Am I wrong? Has anyone found 33 facets normal?

Thanks

Deb

57 plus a culet is normal for round brilliant

Smaller than 1.8mm .02ct diamonds can look batter in single cut diamonds with various combinations of 8 or 16 less facets top and bottom.

Hi Garry,

Thank you so much for your reply! The only reason I asked,(I'm a colored stone nut), is where I live, A local jeweler was advertising that most if not all diamonds are 33 facets. He was promoting a 74 facet cut round brilliant diamond. BTW, he is the one that just sold the Orlov Diamond necklace. I just sometimes wonder about what he sells.

Thanks
Deb

ignorance is bliss

The number of facets is dependant on the size of the stone and is  less important than the interaction between them - for instance many princess cuts have less facets than round brilliants - but princess cuts appear to have many more facets - smaller pinfire sparkles or virtual facets.  Below 1/2ct princess cut is really too small to work well.  Above 10ct princess starts to eclipse round
