Hello all. I purchased this diamond from Blue Nile: http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?pid=LD00362763&keyword_search_value=LD00362763 GIA certificate, Carat Weight: 0.74 ct Clarity: SI1 Color: I Measurements: 5.80 mm x 5.83 mm x 3.61 mm Flouresence: stong blue Symmetry/Polis: ex/ex Girdle: thin to medium Culet: none Total Depth: 62.1% Table width: 54% Crown Angle: 34.5% Pavillion Angle: 40.8% lgf: 80% stars: 55% Clarity Characteristics: Crystal Comments: H&A It looks very nice to me. To my eyes, it is eyeclean face up, though I can see the crystal from the side if I look hard enough. The fluorescence is something I was looking for (my girlfriend and I are both in science, so I think she will appreciate it). I'm almost entirely sure that this will be the stone I keep, especially since I had a good experience with Blue Nile and they were nice enough to give me the September discount even though I requested it after I had made the purchase. But as a last check, I just wanted to make sure there weren't any red flags with this diamond I should be aware of and that I got a decent price ($1861 with the discount). Thanks in advance for any comments, Patch |

It sounds like you made a great choice to me! The numbers are in the ideal range and the flourescence may even make the stone whiter appearing! Congrats!

Sounds like a great choice. Does it have a hearts and arrows pattern?

Thanks for the replies so far. Shel, I can see arrows and I even saw some hearts looking at it under magnification. So I'd say there is a pattern there, but I have no idea whether or not it meets the requirements to be considered a true H&A. I understand that the H&A on the certificate doesn't mean much, but I figured that as long as I wasn't paying a H&A premium it might be a good buy. Worst case, I've got a diamond with proportions in the ideal range and excellent polish and symmetry. If it is a true H&A, then that's a bonus.

Good to hear. The reason I ask is that I have a very similar stone from Blue Nile. Mine also has a GIA laser inscription and an H&A inscription (rare on the BN site). I bought it without knowing what H&A meant at the time, but now that I know, the H&A is a real bonus. Unfortunately, I couldn't verify the H&A pattern as I bought the stone mounted in a setting. So when I saw your post, I figured I would ask about the quality of the H&A pattern, which an appraiser could evaluate with an H&A viewer. I wonder if our stones are from the same cutter... Anyway, I'm very pleased with the performance of my stone. It sounds like we both stumbled onto really good quality diamonds. Congratulations. Shel |
