Custom Design 2 Diamond ring: Poll

Hello Everyone,

First off, I'd like to thank everyone on this forum, as I have found this site to be very helpful in my quest for the perfect engagement ring for me and my soon to be fiance (hopefully).

I'd like to conduct a POLL to see which of these 2 designs people here might like more. I'll call one design "Bypass". The other design is "Side By Side". Both designs incorporate 2 heart cut diamonds (approx ~1ct a piece). I believe that a simple band would be best for either design, but I'll included one with smaller side stones as an option. Finally, I should have added a 3rd selection, let's assume that it is a more traditional design with 1 single center stone and a solitare ring.

I know this this is a departure from the single center stone, but luckily I'm with someone who's open to my creativity.

Finally, any additional thoughts or ideas would be greatly welcomed.

The band will probably be different than the one posted here, since I think that a simple band might be best, but I'm up for suggestions.

The top one at least gives some funk but still, best be sure she'd like something that sweet in more than costume jewelery. As a self-confessed old romantic who's been married for over 43 years, I think the symbolism of the hearts side by side is wonderful.

Unless you are sure your girlfriend wants heart shaped diamonds for her engagement ring (and is likely to still feel the same way in 50 years), I would choose a more classic shape with better light return (you can still be creative with the setting). Of the 2 rings you posted, I prefer the first. I think hearts look better in colored gemstones. The color would make the shape show more, and light return would not be an issue. It would be neat to do a two heart ring in your 2 birthstones for an anniversary or birthday.

If she does, great, but it's not something most girls over the age of 11 dream of. Of the two choices, I prefer the first, mainly because it's slightly less cutesy.

They were bright and quite lovely. That said. Please make sure that she REALLY ADORES hearts. Cause honey... I'm telling you about 95% of the ladies on here would not want one as an e-ring. If I had to choose I'd go with the bypass too, though.

You could mess with the setting/shank if you want something a little funkier, and then even if she later in life chooses to change the it, a simpler diamond shape would be timeless. If you're dead set on hearts, I like the suggestion given earlier of putting small hearts on either side of a round diamond, with the point going toward the shank.

Something about the 2 stone choices just doesn't say engagement ring to me. I'm just traditional, maybe your girlfriend would feel differently. Have you shopped around with her at all to see what she really loves? If this ring is not to be a surprise to her, I would definitely run the creative choices by her since you are taking it down a non-traditional path! (Note: this coming from someone married to a creative person, who wishes I had been allowed input into such a special purchase. I recently changed my setting to my choice, after years of feeling secretly disappointed.)

I wouldn't mind heart-shaped earrings, but even so, I'd only wear them occasionally. Go for a more classic design, if you don't want RB then asscher, emerald or princess would be timeless and you couldn't go wrong.

About 15 years ago, I considered one as my DH was buying a gift for me. I tried it on ( solitaire ) and thought it lovely. I still think heart stones lovely, but the jeweler, a friend, told me I would tire of it quickly so, I made another selection ( a lovely marquise which, sadly, I tired of after a few years.....sigh ) Would I have tired of the heart? Would your fiancee? I don't know.....but....if she wants heart shaped diamonds, then she should have them. And, if you want to present her with a heart ring, then that's very important too. Susi

Jackie Kennedy's engagement ring from JFK was a crossover design with a diamond and emerald. This might be another you. We're a fairly young couple (mid-20's) and I can certainly understand many of the recommendations in terms of going down the path towards a more traditional design. I have certainly thought about it, and the many variations in design. I've also thought about what she might think of it 20-30 years down the road, when we are older. But we are probably a different kind of couple. We both collect Transformers and My Little Ponies to this day :-). And although I don't talk about engagement ring designs much with her as of late (last 6 months), I've mentioned designing a double heart ring in the past and she's always been receptive and excited about the prospects. (Of course, it might have just been the prospects of being engaged and married). So I'm letting my heart guide the way and letting our history speak for the design. Finally, thank you for the votes, please continue voting if you haven't. And as always, I welcome recommendations and constructive criticism. I always want to be considerate of more traditional designs and the reasoning behind it. I don't want to leave any stones unturned, so to speak. Thanks everyone, Joey

If she does, but if you want a more 'traditional' design, I saw a ring just the other day at Bailey Banks and Biddle (seemed like it was in the Ritani section?) that was a center RB flanked by two hearts. Still not my own personal choice, but it was a pretty ring, and a much more classic look while still incorporating two hearts.

I think the sentiment of a heart diamond, and 2 hearts at that is a lovely one. You know your woman best and your relationship. since you have explained you had mentioned to her a heart ring, then maybe it is the way to go for you! I voted for #2, I think it has a nice look side by side, and I like the diamonds down the band. Could I suggest another idea??? How about a heart-shaped halo around maybe a round diamond? This will give you your heart look with a more sparkly diamond. Or you could do a heart halo with a heart in it. I do like your 2 hearts idea, and am trying to locate a picture of Sandra Bullock's ring, bc I know she has 2 diamonds ( I think they are rounds).
