We are taking our engagement pics next month and I'm trying to deciede on WHAT TO WEAR!!! It is a lot harder than I thought. I went to the mall today after work and felt like I couldn't find ANYTHING that I wanted! I did buy one black shirt that's cute but I don't know how much I'm feeling it now. So I guess my questions are....

1. Suggestions on what to to wear..(I know the traditional black/white)

2. What you wore/plan on wearing

3. Things to stay away from...

I feel like everytime I go to the mall with the intention on making a purchase I can't find ANYTHING, but when I go and don't plan on spending money I see lots of cute stuff. Ugh!

I have a friend who is in public relations and does a lot of photo shoots.
She once suggested a solid blue color is usually good on most folks in a photo,
but that could depend on your coloring.

I would think a solid color would work best, and I don't know if this is a 'rule' but I would stay away from busy patterns or prints, and make sure you and FI coordinate, not necessarily matchy-matchy.

Our engagement shoot is going to be a day when we're at the park with our dog, so we're planning to wear jeans or khakis- haven't decided on a top yet.

One idea, I'm planning to go have my makeup done for it, and the girl at the salon is really good with colors. I'm sure they would be able to give advice on clothing colors as well? just a thought.

I'm actually having mine taken today! I am wearing a plum solid colored blazer with a top underneath that went with it.  He is wearing a gray button up.  We are both wearing jeans.  My friend is a photographer and he said not to look too matchy matchy and to have contrast in the colors.  So far it looks good together, we'll see when the pics are done though!
You could always ask the photographer what they recommend and sometimes it depends on the setting of where you are having them taken as well.  But make sure you are comfortable in whatever you are going to wear or if not it will show in pics.  Have fun!

I wore a red shirt, and my boy work a grayish shirt with white stripes on it. It turned out AWESOME, I love our engagement pics.

She wore some white dress we found on J.Crew. I wore white linen shirt with khaki pants. That seems to be the standard "uniform" for engagement pictures.

My photographer suggested that we both wear white tops of some sort, and we both wore jeans. I am sure you can wear whatever you like, and whatever makes you feel good. I do suggest you don't go too 'out there' with your clothing, because it really does take away from the photos when the clothing catches the eye. Wear something simple and try not to wear anything super dated. Here is a photo that has both of us that shows how wearing white can look. I feel like it lets the colors of us and our surroundings look more vivid.

my photog had these suggestions:
better to both wear either a darker or lighter palette, black is always good bc of slimming, or neutrals are good, always solids, no prints or bright colors like red.

DH and I both wore black, I wore a black dress, he wore his black suit w/a silver tie. I think it looks nice. I think I posted my epics on here at some point. But, I think most ppl don't dress up as much for their epics.

The beach we were at for our e-pics had a good number of dressed up couples. Everyone had the same basic colors tho. White, neutrals, couple of black items or jeans. Definitely nothing bright or showy tho.

I'm probably going to wear navy blue pants with thin vertical stripes on them, and a long sleeved white blouse. I'm probably going to ask my FI to wear blue dressed pants and a shirt, although I might have to pick them for him since he's colourblind!

FI and I both wore white shirts.  He wore jean shorts and I wore a jean skirt.  We really didn't have a choice since this is what everyone was wearing for the family pics that we took immediately before our engagement pictures, but I love how they turned out.

I have been really stressing about this also. Our pics are Tuesday, and I had a horrible time finding something I liked. Our pics are going to be outside. We decided on khaki pants and a sage green shirt for him, and I am wearing a grey skirt and pink sweater. I was really worried that it would be cold so I wanted a sweater. Although I still think jeans would be super comfortable!!
Our photographer said to avoid too "busy" prints or anything too trendy, so that in 5 years or so it doesn't look dated.
