As per the title - your opinions are ver much appreciated. The stone is 4.13cts, I colour and SI1 clarity. I have not seen it in the flesh but the vendor has confirmed that it is eye clean with minimal bow tie.

1.  The stone LOOKS beautiful from the IS and regular pictures.

2.  The stats all come out as 1A, the best cut grade.

It looks amazing!

Beautiful hand shot.

No prong protecting the tip?  That's dangerous territory IMO...it's just hanging out there and a good whack can chip that tip easily.....I'd protect it with a prong.

Looks gorgeous to me!!!  But want to know is that the permanent setting??  The tip should be protected, and in that setting it's not as FG pointed out.

Firegoddess - thanks for the feedback.

Regarding the handshot - its just a dummy ring that the vendor has put the stone in to show me what it looks like. I havent seen the stone in the flesh yet.

The vendor is telling me that the stone is very brilliant. I trust her opinion. The I colour is the only thing holding me back for the moment. Just need to get my head straight. Opinions are helpful. Does the idealscope look ok ?

SKR, did they just set that in a setting for a visual, or are you getting that setting??

And I personally think that thing is drop dead...

ETA. nevermind!

I agree that the pear looks gorgeous. Gosh, i have slowly become such a pear lover and that one makes me want one even more. I also agree that it definitely needs a new setting protecting the tip if that's a permanant one.

As for the I color, of course all we have are the pics, but from them, I just don't see a problem. And I'm kinda picky.

Like I said, the IS is nice.  Typical leakage for a pear.

Good to know that's not the real setting - the tip hanging out was a huge red flag.

The I color is going to be a personal thing.  I had an I colored round stone and I didn't end up liking the color I could see.  I was going to try to upgrade to a G colored pear, and stumbled upon my D accidentally.  Now I'm ruined forever.    You should know that fancies like pears show more color in the tips...than a round of similar color would.  So you should definitely make sure you're okay with an I.

Color sensitivity is such a personal thing.  I know that an I color stone wouldn't bother me for one minute.   Also  remember that a  brilliancy will mask any color a bit.  I'd certainly want to see this one IRL before I'd reject it because of its I grading....it looks sensational!

Wow, I know nothing about pears but this pear looks amazing.  It's just gorgeous!  It looks amazing on the hand too, beautiful size.  You'll have to decide for yourself about the I color.  There was someone on here who had a J pear and in the end wasn't happy with it and traded it for a G round or something, but then there are many others on here with fancies with lower grades.  Someone here has a three stone J colored radiant ring and it looks gorgeous.

Personally, I don't mind the warmer colors as much as I thought I would, and I think it looks especially pretty on oliver colored or darker skin (although it was unclear whether that was your hand or not).

How do you think you will set the pear if you decide to buy it?

FG, how representitive are these pics? I mean, could it look much more tinged in real life?

I have seen some pear pics with the tip looking yellowish. However this stone in the pics looks ok as there doesnt seem to be any more yellow in the tip. The vendor (whiteflash) is also telling me that it faces up white and is more towards a H than a J and is a strong SI1. The other plus point is that it has minimal to non existant bow tie. As you mentioned the cut is good as well. Face up size is decent for the carat weight given the reasonable depth.

If this was a G or a H colour, I would have raided the local bank for the extra cash.

wow!
she's purty.

did you ask about the color?  i wouldn't think that the 60% depth would not hold much color but you could always ask.  color is subjective of course but i think brian is pretty good at relaying those kind of details.

Who's Brian ?

Regarding settings, I have a couple (one of which got rightfully dinged by some of the ladies here!!) in mind - I'll post some pics later.

Also aren't the I and J bands supposed to be pretty wide ? So in I colour stones there can be significant colour variabilty depending on whether they just missed being classified as an H or got lucky and just escaped from falling to a J ?

For color, it's hard to tell.  I could show you pictures of my stone (a D) taken in lighting that makes it look like an L.  And every computer monitor is different...   So I tend to reserve judgment on that unless there's another stone of different color grade in the same picture as some sort of reference.

brian is *the* diamond guy at wf http://whiteflash.com/diamonds_about/about_profile.aspx#3

you're right, the bands do get wider the farther down the color scale you go but any diamond can be 'high' or 'low' in their respective color range and some diamonds could easily be graded either way.  maybe this is a 'high' 'i' that might have been graded an 'h' on another day?
actually, in re-reading your post, it seems like this may be the case.
i would at least have a look.  they have a great return policy.  if you're not completely happy, just send that baby right back and keep looking.  the return shipping is only about $30.  it's worth it for you peace of mind.

I agree with belle. When you're spending the kind of money you are, shipping is a drop in the bucket for peace of mind. Ship that thing home!
